JOB SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under minimal supervision, responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and verification of wireless systems for hearing aids and hearing aid accessories. Must possess technical expertise, effective communication skills, creativity, and internal drive to lead the design and test of wireless systems that are recognized as best-in-class in the hearing aid industry. Must have the ability to work both independently and in a group environment. Must be able to work well with a cross-functional team and provide leadership and clarity in a team environment and have a passion for continuous improvement.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/RESULTS

- Provide technical input to product specification and requirement generation for wireless products.

o Participate in and contribute to product and system specification and requirement generation with product management and systems engineering.

o Coordinate and attend meetings to determine the specification for wireless system performance.

o Drive documentation of wireless system architecture specifications, link budgets, and communication protocol.

- Lead the innovation in the design of the wireless system for products through the product development process. o Drive wireless system design, implementation, verification, and release of wireless products.

o Design and implement wireless system feature requests.

o Participate in DFMEA and risk assessment and risk mitigation for product development.

- Research and technology development of wireless system for hearing aids, hearing aid accessories and wireless applications.

o Stay current on developments of ultra-low-power wireless system design and communication protocol. o Identify patentable IP and write patent disclosures.

- Drive testing and troubleshooting of the wireless system to characterize the system level performance.

o Generate wireless system integration test plans and procedures to characterize the wireless system level performance.

o Coordinate wireless system integration testing and report generation. o Analyze test reports and track/troubleshoot wireless system bugs.

o Review internal and external wireless and system level specifications and determine compliance to specifications.

o Take a proactive approach towards problems and projects in addition to creativity and latitude is expected.

- Drive continuous improvement in wireless system design and test.

o Identify and implement improvements in the product development process that could be streamlined. o Pursue test automation where appropriate.

- Support transfer of products and product knowledge into manufacturing, education and training, sales, and trade shows.

o Seek input for DFMA from Quality during product design.

o Support manufacturing and quality activities for ramp-up of wireless products.

o Attend production improvement meetings to support cost reduction and quality improvement.

- Mentor and provide work direction to junior engineers and technicians.

o Meet with junior engineers and technician regularly to provide work direction.

o Meet with the junior engineers periodically to provide guidance on projects and tasks.

- Other duties/responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Education, Certification and Experience Requirements

Education

o Senior Wireless System Engineer I: MSEE + 4 years' experience or BSEE with 8 years of progressive, post bachelor's experience in field required

o Senior Wireless System Engineer II: MSEE + 6 years' experience or BSEE with 10 years of progressive, post bachelor's experience in field required

Experience

o Senior Wireless System Engineer I: MSEE + 4 years' experience or BSEE with 8 years of progressive, post bachelor's experience in field required

o Senior Wireless System Engineer II: MSEE + 6 years' experience or BSEE with 10 years of progressive, post bachelor's experience in field required

Knowledge/Technical Requirements

- Expertise with communication systems and protocol stacks required.

- Expertise in short range wireless systems (e.g. Bluetooth, 802.11, UWB, IrDA, Spread Spectrum) required.

- Knowledge of wireless data networking environments and other wireless standards required.

- Wireless system modeling and simulation experience highly desired.

- Knowledge of low-power-radio design required

- Understanding of link budgets including effects of body shadowing and loading, multipath, and indoor propagation desired.

- Experience with wireless data networking environments and other wireless standards desired.

Skills

- Excellent Communication skills, both written and verbal.

- Must have strong interpersonal communication skills

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Expert in using the following equipment: oscilloscope, signal generator, spectrum analyzer, network analyzer.

- Data statistical analysis and statistical process control.

- Capable of performing with minimum supervision or direction.

- Comfortable with prioritizing multiple tasks.

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills required.

- Proficiency with system simulation tools (e.g. MATLAB, Simulink) desired.

- Familiar with FCC, ETSI and other wireless regulatory standards desired.

- Familiarity with high volume production desired.

- Familiarity with writing software for test and automation desired.

- Excellent computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office tools required.

- Must be able to work in a fast paced, team-oriented environment.

- Must be able to adapt positively to a changing environment

Salary and Other Compensation:
The target rate for this position is between $106,260 to $144,900/year. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

Benefits:
The Company offers the following benefits for this position, subject to applicable eligibility requirements, include medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, life insurance, short-term disability insurance, long-term disability insurance, employee assistance program, hearing aid benefits, PTO, 6 paid holidays annually, 2 floater days annually, 1 volunteer service day annually, paid paternity leave, and tuition reimbursement.

This position is eligible for a bonus based upon performance results. There is no guarantee of payout.
