The General Manager (GM) is directly responsible for meeting and exceeding annual P & L goals for their division, building and developing a cohesive team of people working together to meet and exceed sales plans and the growth of all product lines within their scope of focus. The GM must demonstrate the ability to manage the sales, technical and local operations requirements for the business. They will manage customer and partner relationships and expectations from a sales growth perspective, while maintaining existing accounts and partners, to increase sales volume as dictated by the company's strategic goals. This role must be hands-on with driving sales . The GM role is critical and will prove pivotal in the continued growth of the business unit, as part of the larger global company. This position requires a self-directed, strategic and forward-thinking person. The GM must also be an energetic, results oriented and capable of professional and detailed follow through. Key Responsibilities
- Directly oversee sales/operations staff
- Build a sales team around the needs and opportunities of the business sales plan
- Identify and close sales opportunities in accordance with the company's overall strategic plans and financial objectives
- Develop and maintain relationships with customers, partners, design engineers, construction companies and project developers
- Actively pursue direct sales leads with clients
- Assist with, and lead forecast of revenue and review sales results to ensure that established targets are being met; take corrective action where required
- Assist senior management to define and improve the product portfolio for use in the market by regularly gathering feedback from customers, business partners and by closely monitoring industry trends
- Provide input regarding marketing and product positioning strategies specific to the market and geographical needs
- Successfully execute a brand and messaging strategy; act as an external champion for the brand
- Identify viable leads, manage prospects and secure all lines of temporary business offered within the market to exceed monthly established targeted profitable growth goals
- Utilize the Company's CRM tool daily; scheduling and documenting all activities; develop robust information profiles on prospective customers to facilitate the acquisition of new business
- Ensure the use of the Company's CRM tool effectively, accurately and on a daily basis by all sales staff
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of the Company's available services, lines of business, pricing structures; sell to existing and prospective commercial and industrial clients, as appropriate, to grow targeted revenue and contribute to Company goals and objectives
- Meet regularly with sales team, to effectively communicate goals, review weekly sales activities, schedules and any training needs
- Provide proactive short term and big picture leadership and coaching to team
- Daily oversight and follow up on financial and quality job performance
- Ensure that all team members are following all safety procedures
- Coordinate all orders and projects with the inside sales team, operations and vendors sources
- Facilitate shipping, credit and logistic issues that inhibit meeting customer ship date requirements
- Responsible for Annual and Medium Term sales and profit planning
- Oversee and maintain the company office arrangements (e.g. leases, space layout, etc) as needed
Requirements
- Minimum 7+ years' experience in technical sales, preferably in a manufacturing/engineering environment; broad understanding of manufacturing methods, practices and procedures
- 2-3 years management experience
- Previous experience in the safety industry will be an advantage
- Solid and verifiable track record of over-achievement
- Proven record of successfully growing market share
- Proven track record of identifying, negotiating/converting and closing large dollar deals
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand the technical workings of fall protection and convey the advanced technical product benefits to potential customers in easy-to-grasp terms
- Demonstrated success in planning and executing sales growth, building a team to achieve result
- Ability to identify and convert new accounts while maintaining existing relationships
- Demonstrated success in operating effectively in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, complex, rapid growth environment
- Possess a distinct customer service focus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of database software; internet software; manufacturing software; ERP software; CRM platforms; spreadsheet software and word processing software
- Experience working for an international organization, preferred
- Valid Driver's License required
- Ability to enter high security client facilities (clear background check)
