Overview
Responsible for supporting the billing, coding, and business office functions remotely with a focus on reducing past due accounts receivable. This position assists the providers with administrative services and operations for palliative care including billing and administrative support for the purpose of billing and coding. This position coordinates systems and procedures with medical records, data entry, claims review, and personnel functions to ensure efficient operations.
Responsibilities
- Ensures accurate and timely billing processes by reviewing patient charts for compliance/accuracy with all billing requirements before billing.
- Promotes compliance with all fiscal intermediary and/or other third-party payors through education, coaching, and other assistance as necessary.
- Maintains current knowledge of, and ensures compliance with all federal, state and local regulations in relation to billing processes.
- Collaborates with providers and palliative care leadership to ensure quality and accuracy of medical records information.
- Conducts audits to achieve maximum reimbursement for services provided.
- Monitors systems, identifies problem areas, and develops and implements action plans as necessary in relation to office billing operations in conjunction with billing coordinator and office specialists.
- Complies with policies, procedures and regulatory mandates including but not limited to abiding to the terms of the Amedisys Compliance Program.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
High school diploma or GED. Two (2+) years' experience as a medical billing and coding specialist. Certification from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Demonstrated knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes. Demonstrated knowledge of the appropriate skills for communicating with individuals of all ages. Excellent interpersonal skills including excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong computer and software skills including Microsoft products. Working knowledge of record keeping and office administration.
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in business or related field. Experience in palliative care billing/coding.
