The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner will provide full range of high-quality outpatient care consistent with Columbia Health Medical Services policies and procedures and in accordance with NY State Board of Nursing and professional licensing board regulations. The incumbent will deliver primary care to graduate and undergraduate students, including the promotion of health and prevention of disease, as well as evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic illness and acute medical issues

This is an essential onsite role that participates in on-call rotation and provides occasional Saturday coverage during the academic term.

Responsibilities







  • Effectively conducts focused health history and performs physical examinations for complex, acute, critical, and chronically ill patients or as indicated by the patient's reason for visit.
  • Identifies and manages common health problems, both acute and chronic in accordance with approved guidelines.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests. Prescribes a variety of modalities to treat illness and promote optimal wellness and management of illness, including, but not limited to, medical, nutrition, exercise, and traditional nursing treatment.
  • Works collaboratively with physicians in planning for patient care and makes referrals to other disciplines as indicated.
  • Participates in after-hours care, acting as backup for on-call nurse triage service on a rotating basis with other clinical providers.
  • Evaluates and documents patients' responses to the plan of care in the electronic health record system.
  • Performs telephone consultations, laboratory follow-up, and triaging of urgent care patients with referral to appropriate providers, and care coordination as necessary.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for MDs, RNs, and Medical Assistants and other non-medically trained staff.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate charting and documentation.
  • Assume accountability for personal time management and workload in order to meet departmental needs.
  • On-site preceptor for Nurse Practitioner students.
  • Participates in the development, review, and revision of Nurse Practitioner practice guidelines and development of standards, patient care policies, and clinical procedures, and audits peer practice to support overall quality of patient care.
  • Actively participates in inter-departmental committees; supports and contributes to Quality Assurance, and incorporates findings into practice.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Requires current NY State NP license, DEA registration, BLS, and Infection Control Certificate.
  • A minimum of 4 years related experience with at least 2 years' acceptable clinical experience required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in performing medical examinations in routine and emergency situations as well as treating common, acute, and episodic illnesses and injuries.
  • Knowledge of disease, prevention, and health promotion needs of late adolescent and adult populations, as well as understanding healthcare needs of college campuses desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and promote interpersonal relationships, and work effectively with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Must be computer literate and familiar with electronic schedule and electronic medical record.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Family, adult, college or community health NP preferred.
  • Proficiency in Bengali, Cantonese, French, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, and other languages is a plus.
