Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience within the Human Resources field.
  • Five or more years of experience supervising a team or more than one employee.
  • Five or more years of experience in Employee Relations, including conflict resolution and providing guidance on employee-related matters.
  • Five or more years of experience with Position Management, including job description development, position evaluation, and organizational development planning.

Position Summary
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for the management and oversight of the daily operational support for human resources and performance management leadership to the College. This includes overseeing and supervising HR related services and making program modifications and improvements as necessary to ensure best practices within the College. The Director of Human Resources will advise leadership and supervisors related to University HR policies, as well as developing and implementing HR strategies and plans within the College. This position supervises three full-time HR practitioners. This role is responsible for ensuring the College's personnel actions and activities are compliant with Federal, State and University policies and support the institutions equal opportunity and diversity goals. This position works closely with the Assistant Director of Finance in the Business and Finance Office to ensure payroll aligns with human resources transactions and will have decision making authority regarding processes, procedures and manners that impact the College. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Business and Finance within the College of Family and Consumer Sciences and will be second in command for all HR manners including signature authority in the absence of the Senior Director.

Day-to Day HR Operations Focus:

  • Daily management and oversight of HR functions in multiple systems, UGAJobs and OneUSG Connect, including approval and signature authority.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of institutional policies, systems, state and federal law, and communicating new policies or changes to existing policy throughout the organization. Ensure compliance with various federal, state, University and BOR regulations.
  • Serves as the primary contact to review and manage position descriptions, job postings, recruitment, the interview process, and hiring in College for all positions: faculty, staff, temporary employees, graduate assistants, and student workers.
  • Provide guidance to supervisors regarding reorganizations, reclassifications, revised job descriptions, and new job postings, and will have autonomy for frontline decision-making.
  • Review and approve all faculty actions in UGAJobs as the OFA Liaison.
  • Review faculty contract information and request revisions through the Office of Faculty Affairs. Communicate to faculty concerning contracts.
  • This position will be second in command to the Senior Director for Finance and Human Resources for financial matters, with decision-making and signature authority.
  • Duties will also include providing direct support to the Senior Director, Dean, and Associate Deans of College. This includes attending meetings representing the office, college and Senior Director.

Employee Relations Focus:

  • Serves as the primary contact to provide frontline coaching to supervisors to sustain long-term employee performance levels and maintain a cadence of accountability.
  • Manages process of annual performance evaluations including feedback to supervisors, communication and working closely with supervisors and Central HR regarding performance issues including assistance with counseling plans.
  • Provides training and counsel for Employee Competency Model.
  • Interpret and explain human resources policies, procedures, laws, standards, or regulations.
  • Provide professional consulting services to university employees, supervisors, and management regarding human resources related issues.
  • Perform difficult staffing duties, including dealing with understaffing, moderating disputes, terminating employees, and administering disciplinary procedures.

  • Provide supervision, training, and performance assessment of three full-time Human Resources positions and one part-time student worker to ensure goals and objectives of the College are being met.
  • Directing daily work load and activities.
  • Input into raises, drafting performance reviews, and developing professional development plans for HR Coordinator.
  • Indirect reporting and leadership to all HR practitioners in the College including guidance, direction, complex decision-making, troubleshooting, and oversight management.

Engagement and Collaboration:

  • Working closely with the Senior Director of Finance and Human Resources as well as Director of Finance within OFHR regarding payroll as related to human resources
  • Serve as HR liaison to support and represent the College to all central offices, including University HR, OFA, EOO, ETIS, and Legal Affairs, including attending meetings, providing feedback as appropriate, and sharing information as appropriate.
  • Strategic business partner to University Human Resources, collaborating with UHR leaders on focus groups and cross-functional project teams as needed.
  • Training and supervision of new initiatives and processes from UHR.

Leadership Focus:

  • Develop plans and strategies to support the achievement of the overall business operation goals, working closely with the College senior leadership.
  • Direct and advise leaders in various HR actions, including but not limited to hiring, restructuring, compensation, employee relations, and compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Provides data and guidance to the College senior leadership concerning recommendations for salary increases (annual and during the year), including formal notification to supervisors and employees college-wide.

Reporting Focus:


  • Utilize reporting from OneUSG Connect, including queries and cubes, to analyze HR data for decision-making regarding compensation, promotions, and reclassifications to support College's senior leadership in decision-making.
  • Provide a leave audit to Senior Director of Business and Finance and Dean each year for the College.
  • Trend data analysis for BCAT categories, salaries, and other parameters as needed.
  • Effort reporting for faculty each year for annual reviews.
