The employee shall provide Support Services for maintenance, overhaul and upkeep of small boats for the USCG. The candidate must be capable of providing support for nonsupervisory tasks involving the dismantling, repair, relocation, modification, maintenance, alignment, and installation of a wide range of marine machinery, equipment, and systems. These systems include, but are not limited to, propulsion machinery, propellers, and jet propulsion units. The role requires practical knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, as well as their associated components and attachments. This requires in-depth knowledge of the operating characteristics of the machinery, equipment, and systems involved; their functional interrelationships; the appropriate installation and repair techniques, methods, and trade practices; and the unique environmental challenges of working aboard marine vessels-such as limited space between bulkheads and decks and the proximity of different types of machinery.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a team performing mechanical repairs and maintenance on USCG vessels.
- Performs equipment and component assessments and repairs. Be able to identify failures and potential failures of boat equipment and systems.
- Perform repairs and replacements of small boat sponson collar systems
- Perform all manner of mechanical and electrical repairs and replacements of trailer components.
- Perform regular schedule boat maintenance to include the following: Oil and filter changes
- Perform basic electrical troubleshooting, installation, and testing.
- Work in a clean, efficient and safe manner.
- Conduct operational testing and quality inspections.
- Maintenance Procedure Card processing
- Managing progress and ensuring the work is performed correctly and on time, according to company, industry and USCG standards, per contractual guidelines.
- Informing management of progress status and requirements.
- Transport boats using company provided vehicles to pick up and deliver boats to and from client locations around the continental US.
- Must be able to launch and recover boats for testing and evaluation
- Must be capable of operating a forklift safely.
- Work in a clean, efficient and safe manner.
Desired Skills and Abilities:
- Familiar with Mercruiser bravo series outdrives
- Familiar with Yanmar Diesel engines.
- Familiar with Volvo and Steyr marine diesel engines.
- Familiar with Hamilton jet drives
- Familiar with Cummins QSB 6.7 marine engines
- Familiar with other various marine propulsion diesels under 300hp
- Familiar with marine DC electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings and technical manuals.
Job Qualifications:
- Must have High School Diploma.
- Must have or be able to obtain current USCG approved boating course certification.
- Requires experience using various Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Prior experience with RHIB for federal or USCG boats is desirable.
- Must provide a clean driving record.
- Must provide your own tools and toolbox.
Experience:
- Marine Mechanic: 4 years (Required)
Travel:
- Travel is required for this position. Travel will occur up to 10% of the time. Full per diem and company paid travel is provided.
Security:
- Must pass a standard background check.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work in an office, industrial, or shipboard environment.
- Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature.
- Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift.
Place of Performance:
- This task shall be performed in the Industrial Park Area in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at our boat warehouse and repair facility.
