The International Services Office (
ISO) at the George Washington University facilitates international educational exchange through its services and programs. It serves as the primary administrative, programming, and advising office for the GW international community.
Reporting to the Associate Director of the International Services Office, the Manager, International Student & Scholar Services manages two full-time International Student and Scholar Advisors. The position also maintains an advising caseload and serves in a role model capacity to junior team members within the organization. It collaborates with the Associate Director and the other Manager to resolve complex immigration situations that rise above the expertise of the International Student and Scholar Advisors. Serve as a representative of the International Services Office across the campus to advance international student needs, understanding and explain complex scenarios relevant to community stakeholders.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Serving as a Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer with DHS designation to ensure that all necessary information regarding international students is reported to the U. S. Department of Homeland Security to ensure participants maintain legal status throughout their academic program at the University.
- Managing two full-time Advisors, responsible for recruitment, training, evaluations, professional development and feedback.
- Engaging in international student yield events.
- Directing students and scholars to appropriate resources on campus to ensure that they maintain good academic performance, health and wellness, and are adjusting to the general U. S. culture as well as academic culture.
- Serve as a part of thought leadership of the ISO team.
The position is based at GW's Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC and occasionally travels nationally and internationally. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. |
Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |

Preferred Qualifications: |
- 2+ years related experience in higher education international student support is preferred.
- Proficiency in a second language is desired.
- Experience studying or living abroad is preferred.
- Ability to receive DHS SEVIS access.
- Ability and willingness to travel nationally and internationally.
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate collaborative, professional, and friendly relationships with internal and external constituencies.
- Exceptional public speaking, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively at all organizational levels and with diverse ethnic and cultural constituents.
- An understanding of the unique challenges and needs of international and sponsored students and scholars.
- Ability to prioritize, manage, and complete multiple tasks effectively with a high level of efficiency and efficacy.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and thoroughness.
- Demonstrated analytical judgement and problem-solving skills.
