Itron is innovating new ways for utilities and cities to manage energy and water. We create a more resourceful world to protect essential resources for today and tomorrow. Join us.
Join Itron as a Product Manager - DERMS and help shape the future of clean energy. We're looking for a collaborative, systems-minded leader to help evolve our distributed energy platform-a key enabler in building a more sustainable, reliable, and customer-centric electric grid. In this role, you'll work at the intersection of product, engineering, and solution delivery to design software that empowers utilities to manage distributed energy resources (DERs) across homes, businesses, and grid-edge systems. You'll contribute to building a platform that is scalable, interoperable, and thoughtfully designed to serve diverse communities and grid needs. As a Technical Product Manager / Solution Architect, you'll define core capabilities for telemetry processing, device coordination, customer enrollment, and seamless integration with utility systems. You'll also play a key role in unifying platform services across multiple DER use cases, helping our team deliver impact through thoughtful architecture and meaningful collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Shape and manage product requirements for telemetry ingestion, device orchestration, customer enrollment, and asset data modeling
- Partner with cross-functional teams-including engineering, architecture, and implementation-to deliver solutions that are aligned with technical, operational, and customer needs
- Contribute to platform data strategy, including performance, normalization, and support for scalable telemetry services
- Collaborate on integration strategies with third-party platforms and industry protocols (e.g., OpenADR, IEEE 2030.5, Matter, OEM APIs)
- Identify opportunities to unify services across demand response, DER coordination, and grid operations as part of platform convergence
- Create and maintain technical documentation, solution patterns, and interface designs that support transparency and collaboration
- Engage in product discovery to ensure development is grounded in user needs, market insights, and utility goals
- Support the development of features that coordinate with Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS), enabling flexibility and customer empowerment
Required Skills and Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in technical product management, solution architecture, or energy software development
- Familiarity with distributed energy platforms, DERMS, or demand-side flexibility programs
- Understanding of HEMS technologies and residential DER coordination
- Strong grasp of data management and database design (especially time-series or relational databases for grid-interactive systems)
- Experience with communication standards and protocols such as OpenADR, IEEE 2030.5, REST APIs, MQTT, or Matter
- Exposure to utility operations systems (e.g., AMI, ADMS, GIS, CIS)
- Proven ability to collaborate across functions and guide projects from vision to execution
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, energy systems, or related field
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience developing control algorithms for DERs or flexible loads
- Knowledge of energy markets and utility program structures (demand response, TOU pricing, capacity bidding)
- Familiarity with power system modeling, forecasting tools, or planning software
- Understanding of cloud-native platforms and microservices architectures
- Awareness of cybersecurity best practices for energy systems
- Experience working in Agile environments and using tools like Microsoft ADS, Jira, Confluence, or Azure DevOps
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, with an emphasis on clarity and collaboration
- Master's degree in a technical or energy-related discipline is a plus
