Estimator An Estimator must be knowledgeable about general process methodology, current materials, and outside processing cost. The Estimator should be aware of all intimate Recurring and Non-recurring costs for the Basis of Estimate as they are related to the proposal/quote in regard to Customer requirements of their original request for quote (RFQ). The Estimator should seek out insight as necessary from other team members as the needs required in preparation of the final quotation/proposal submission due date nears. The Estimator must be aware of the competition, our cost and profit margins and be prepared to support Sales, Business Management, Engineering, Finance, and Production Control in negotiations and Product Launches. - Develop, analyze, evaluate, coordinate, prepare, and oversee cost proposals to government and commercial customers.
- Review and interpret the Request for Proposal (RFP) for all pricing requirements and work with the Engineering,
- Quality and Program Management to set up the approach and schedule required for bidding the proposal.
- Identify and generate RFPs for all materials and outside processing to suppliers or DAS GOREM Purchasing.
- Research historical data in detail and develop fully traceable summaries.
- Develop fully compliant and accurate cost proposals.
- Support changes or modifications with the customer and participate with the Contract Negotiation team.
- Establish method of manufacturing, detailed job instructions, estimating package preparation, and prepare and produce the summarization of Basis of Estimate (BOE) reporting sheets.
- With the assistance from Engineering, the Estimator shall be given the Identifying Tools required and concepts (with Engineering concurrence), including NC Tapes, Stretch Forms, Mill Fixtures, Check Fixtures, etc. The Estimator will compile all Non-Recurring (NRE) tooling cost summary reports, with breakout of all costs; labor, tools, equipment, outside sub-tier requirements and include all the cost elements in the final quotation/proposal.
- Provide Recurring calculation of hours summary cost (REC) using established templates that include labor hours, material, outside processing, and any Internal Work orders (IWO) processed into a basis of estimate (BOE) report.
- Provide detail Financial Analysis against cost elements of a quote, prepare and support the financial "Basis of Estimate" summary to Management and Senior level approval personnel. Ascertain the quote is considered "Fair & Reasonable" prior to submittal to Sales, Business management and/or Customer.
- Attend (as necessary/or directed) and provide support and guidance for Product Launch meetings.
- Adhere to all directives of "Best Practices" to assure all department requirements, deadlines and obligations are met.
- Stay abreast of the latest technologies, techniques within the Aerospace industry by attending classes, seminars, magazine periodicals, Internet searches etc.
- Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
- Performs other duties as assigned including leading projects and participation in project committees
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and mylars.
- Ability to use modeling software such as Catia.
- Ability to read and understand technical specifications.
- Knowledge of manufacturing materials, processes, and tooling.
- Work well in a team environment as well as individually.
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of learning curve applications, mathematical formulas, and the ability to apply multi-curve projections.
- Knowledge of stretch forming, machining, chemical milling, sheet metal and assembly processes are a must.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Excel, as well as MS Word, MS PowerPoint.
- Working knowledge of BAAN V, Auto-vue, Solid Works, Unigraphics, and knowledge of multiple ERP/MRP systems a plus.
Required Experience and Education
- Minimum High School diploma or equivalent
- 2-year or 4-year degree with courses in Manufacturing and/or Engineering, or Five years' experience and a proven knowledge of cost estimating, and price analysis skills.
- 1-5 years' experience within the Aerospace or aircraft production industry
- At least 1 year experience in Aerospace
