Job Description:

USC Athletics is looking to hire a Facilities Assistant to join our staff and student community of 600+ individuals. This role is responsible for performing, inspecting and documenting facility, repairs, maintenance and improvements for all athletic facilities and equipment. This position ensures all athletic venues and equipment are maintained in a safe, clean, and functional manner for athletes, staff, and guests. The coordinator will work closely with facilities managers, event managers, and university partners.

Knowledge of and experience working in higher education preferred. Understanding of the unique culture and needs of college athletes preferred.

This position serves a large student and staff population, must demonstrate a commitment to improving outcomes for a variety of populations, and is expected to contribute to the program's demonstrated commitment to non-discrimination and equal opportunity for all. Roles and responsibilities to include:

  • Facility Maintenance and Repairs

    • Perform regular inspection, maintenance, and repairs of athletics facilities including offices, meeting spaces, training areas, locker rooms, and practice/competition venues, as well as department owned assets including appliances, machines, equipment, etc.

    • Maintain cleanliness and overall appearance of facilities through regular site walks and coordination with facility managers.

    • Coordinate and serve as point of contact for facility maintenance projects with campus partners and outside vendors.

    • Work collaboratively with all facility managers to deliver a high standard of service and care for all facilities.

    • Document and report all facility maintenance work and annual renewal projects.

    • Prepare and organize facility reports to be distributed among athletics facilities team and leadership.

    • Serve as lead facility manager at assigned facilities.

  • Project Coordination

    • Assist with annual improvements and large scale maintenance projects by: performing the assigned tasks within department projects; acting as a project coordinator/liaison; and overseeing and executing projects (limited to small, local projects), including their organization, scheduling, budgeting, and implementation.

    • Coordinate project work schedules with assigned facility manager, coaching staff and administrators to execute annual improvement projects.

    • Track and report all projects under the guidance of department lead including deferred maintenance projects, annual improvement projects and capital projects.

    • Liaise with external contractors and vendors performing services related to project work and facility branding updates and repairs.

  • Organizational Duties

    • Manage schedules and building access for trade partners and campus resources performing services on facilities.

    • Build and manage equipment vendor list for all projects and facilities.

    • Track and manage inventory for athletic department owned assets including tools, equipment, and supplies in shared database.

    • Engage in all facility maintenance team meetings.

  • Additional Responsibilities

    • Install facility branding displays and graphics produced by outside vendors.

    • Create, print, and install department nameplates, temporary signage, and event signage using in-houses equipment.

    • Build strong relationships with all campus FPM zone managers, third party custodial staff, and FPM project managers.

    • Ensure all competition facilities are event ready and comply with NCAA and Big Ten standards.

    • Assist with facility setup and preparation for special events, practices, and competitions.

    • Assist with outside rentals, camps and clubs within athletics facilities.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (bachelor's degree or specialized/technical training preferred).

  • Five years of combined experience in facilities management, project management, construction, event management, custodial services, trade and/or athletic operations preferred. Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.

  • General knowledge of trade-related methods, materials, tools and equipment.

  • Hands-on experience performing equipment repairs and office / home improvement projects.

  • Preferred familiarity with city and state building codes, OSHA rules and regulations, standard safety practices and equipment, and other requirements for workplace safety.

  • Preferred experience working on college or university campus.

  • Ability to work with diverse populationsboth internally and across the university.

  • Strong multi-tasking ability to handle multiple projects at the same time.

  • High degree of integrity; demonstration of good judgment and the ability to respond quickly.

  • Strong attention to detail, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

  • Computer skills with experience with all Microsoft Office products and project management software.

  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and materials up to 50 pounds or more.

  • Forklift certification and experience operating specialized tools preferred.

  • Valid driver's license required. Position will participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System. A copy of DMV record will be required as a final condition of employment. For more information, please visit the policy website.

Hourly Range:

The hourly rate for this position is $26.34.
