Director of Special Education

SUPERVISION:
None

SALARY RANGE: $49,141 - $90,362 /year

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
  • Minimum 5-years successful teaching experience with a current Tier 3 or 4 MN special education license
  • Demonstrated skill in completion of due process documentation and adherence to timelines and procedures.
  • Demonstrated excellence in special education programming and instruction
  • Strong organization, collaboration, and communication skills
Preferred
  • Experience in leading professional development
  • Demonstrated leadership at the school or district level
  • Experience with due process related to school discipline and suspension, including Manifestation Determination meetings and documentation

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Due Process Coach will work in partnership with teachers, special education supervisors, and the Special Education Directors to support excellence in due process completion and special education programming for all students, grade levels, and programs. The Due Process Coach will provide coaching support for licensed special education staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Coaching:
  • Coach special education teachers, prioritizing probationary teachers, on completion of accurate due process paperwork that accurately reflects good programming and complies with state and district guidance
  • Provide direct coaching to teachers in the use of the district's due process documentation system
  • Support teachers to identify appropriate goals and objectives, services, accommodations, and modifications when writing IEPs
  • Support teachers in writing other special education documents, including but not limited to, evaluation reports, behavior support plans, and progress reports
  • Plan and provide professional development and feedback to teachers regarding due process documentation and timelines
  • Assist Special Education Directors and Supervisors in tracking evaluation and IEP timelines as well as other due process requirements and creating reports related to due process compliance to determine trends for coaching and support
  • Create compliance reports and track data related to due process completion and timelines, and coach teachers on practices to monitor timelines for compliance
Professional Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with district staff in compiling data and reports for compliance
  • Assist in developing and implementing district-wide due process systems for compliance
  • Actively participate in district meetings for special education lead teachers and attend building staff meetings as needed
  • Research and follow state guidance on due process
  • Support the district's completion of state-required reporting
  • Work to promote productive relationships with and among building and district staff
  • Manage time and maintain flexibility in schedule to maximize teachers' learning
  • Continue professional growth
  • Other duties as assigned
