Position Overview


Position Summary
The Grounds area of Facilities is responsible for the overall maintenance of the campus landscape, recycling, and moving and hauling.

Knowledge - Technical
General knowledge of the landscape trade and skills in the use of equipment and tools of the trade. Working knowledge of the cultivation, pruning, spraying, and trimming requirements of shrubs and trees. Ability to make minor repairs to lawnmowers, hose, rakes, pruners and sprayers. Ability to move relatively heavy objects and to work at heavy manual tasks for considerable periods of time.

Mows and trims lawns and shrubberies to a height using hand and power trimmers, and performs other grounds keeping tasks as requested. Performs skilled work in the planting, cultivation, and care of shrubs, trees, plants, and grass. Responsible for maintaining grounds and shrubs in good condition. Recognizes grounds maintenance needs and communicates to lead person or supervisor.

Plant shrubs, flowers, grass and trees as appropriate to enhance the campus landscape. Water flowers and plants as required. Remove leaves, paper and other debris from the campus landscape, walks, and drives. Remove snow and ice from campus walks, drives and streets as required.

Perform moving and hauling and special set-up functions as required. Patch campus roads and drives when instructed.

Minimum Experience/Education
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Special certification may be required for some of these positions

Prefer a minimum of one year experience in performing landscape duties. Training and/or experience in landscaping from an environment similar or related to a university setting is a plus.
