Job Description
Westrock's Director of Material Planning is responsible for developing and executing strategies to ensure timely and cost-effective planning, procurement, and availability of materials to support manufacturing operations and customer demand. This role leads the material planning team, collaborates with category managers, logistics, quality, and sales, and ensures inventory levels meet business goals while minimizing excess or obsolete stock. In addition, develop and manage other buyers throughout the organization. Adaptable and transformational manager with an ability to develop opportunities that further establish organizational goals.
Job Responsibilities:


  • Develop and implement systems to assure optimum inventory levels and on-time deliveries to meet manufacturing/customer requirements, while minimizing carrying costs and transportation charges.
  • Provide innovation in contracting prices. Oversee the purchasing for materials, supplies, equipment, and services for the Company's manufacturing operations. Confer with requesting parties when specific sources are requested. Investigate and solve problems resulting from material shortages, however caused.
  • Support the Strategic Procurement Organization for continuing exploration programs for new materials, suppliers, and processes to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, prices, continuity, and delivery, while working with design and manufacturing teams to help reduce our warranty costs.
  • Support the New Product and Customer Introduction process.
  • Work closely with the production planning team (MRP) to ensure product availability on the production floor.
  • Schedule a time phase to finish goods purchases from an MPS software system and production material purchases from an MRP system.
  • Conduct a thorough business case evaluation of legacy MRP software to support management's decision to upgrade or purchase new.
  • Utilize the ERP to purchase materials for assigning commodities, rescheduling materials as required, ensuring supply, and reducing excess inventory.
  • Formulate and design purchasing, logistics, receiving, and inventory procedures to increase efficiency, accuracy, and cost reduction.
  • Provide direction for evaluating, implementing, and maintaining systems to optimize the procurement and maintenance of all product materials.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining the most efficient and economical methods to transport raw materials and components utilized in all products at all locations.
  • Responsible for the mentoring and leadership of all materials planning personnel.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in material planning, supply chain, or operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of supply chain principles, MRP/ERP systems, and inventory management.
  • Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and delivering operational improvements.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates superior interpersonal, coaching, and communication skills to multiple levels of the organization
  • Motivated, self-directed, and detail oriented
  • Aptitude in decision-making and working with financial KPI's
  • Ability to develop and contribute to strategic vision for a Global Procurement organization
  • Effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously & to develop priorities for self and members of staff
  • 15% travel
  • Collaborates cross-functionally


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Professional certification is a plus (CPSM/CPIM)
  • Experience using a planning software attached to Oracle's NetSuite ERP system
