Position Overview
Housing & Residence Life's Facilities Operations team supports the department's initiatives by operating and maintaining the University's housing physical buildings and assets. Job duties for Temporary Housing Moving Assistant include moving, delivery, and set-up of a variety of items throughout on-campus housing, trash removal, and furniture repair. Job duties also include assisting Operations Coordinators as needed. Work involves performance of manual tasks of more than ordinary difficulty, requiring special knowledge acquired through on-the-job training or experience. This position requires the operation of work issued vehicles.

Teams of 2-4 Temporary Housing Moving Assistants will be scheduled for 24-32 hours per week, with hours between 8am-4:30pm Monday through Friday.

The position begins as soon as Monday, May 19, 2025, and may last through August 31, 2025. Start and end dates may be flexible given mutually agreed upon communication prior to hiring.

Job Description
80% - Moving/Set Up:
  • Loads and unload trucks, move equipment and furniture.
  • Set up and tears down tables, chairs, dressers, desks etc.
  • Assist with adjusting the height and configuration of beds.
  • Transports materials, supplies, and equipment to housing buildings or other campus locations.
10%
  • Removes broken or obsolete furniture or equipment.
  • Installs and removes, all other furniture such as tablet armchairs, table tops and desks.
  • Repairs/assembles, housing furniture such as desks, chairs and beds, using hand/power tools.
  • Deliver supplies to all apartments, residence and scholarship halls as needed.
  • Work involves the operation of box truck, light truck, car and/or van.

10% - Miscellaneous Duties:
  • Completes necessary paperwork associated with assigned projects including inventories, supports other Housing & Residence Life and Student Affairs units, including hall openings/closings, room changes, and other initiatives that take place during the employment period.
  • Perform other related work as assigned

Position Requirements
  • Reach, grasp, lift, carry and place moderately heavy loads frequently and heavy loads occasionally (up to 75 lbs) with or without accommodation.
  • Perform work above normal heights, in confined spaces, and in extreme temperatures hot inside and outdoors.
  • Operate vehicles in transporting self and materials to housing locations.
  • Work overtime as needed.
  • Utilize electronic communications as required.

Required Qualifications
  1. Must have a valid driver's license by time of hire and maintain the license throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. High School diploma or GED equivalency..
  2. Experience working on a relocation or event set up team, as evidenced in application materials.
  3. Experience working in a university, college or other multi-building campus environment, as demonstrated in application materials.
