Job Description
Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.
Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.
Virginia Western Community College is accepting applications for a part-time Community Engagement Specialist in Enrollment Services. The purpose of this position is to actively facilitate a robust community engagement strategy for VWCC, with a particular focus on building relationships with local residents, community partners and service providers in under-represented areas of the college's service region and in areas with identified access barriers. The Community Engagement Specialist will play a pivotal role in establishing Virginia Western's presence in the Roanoke EnVision Center. This position will be located partially at the EnVision Center.
Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
Excellent interpersonal skills. The ability to work well with a highly diverse population in a team and change-oriented environment. The ability to perform well with or without direct supervision. Well-developed oral & written communication skills, including the ability to communicate intricate information in a palatable manner. Knowledge of the purpose and mission of the community college. Must be able to work occasional evening and weekend shifts. Experience providing student/client-facing support services to a diverse population. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications. Experience developing programs and coordinating events involving internal and external stakeholders.
Additional Considerations
Work experience in a community college setting. Knowledge of Virginia Western's degree, certificate and training/credentialing opportunities. Knowledge of available financial assistance and scholarship opportunities.
