Director of Global Tax

Albany's corporate Finance team is seeking a Director of Global Tax who will be an outstanding leader to our Global Tax team. As the Director of Global Tax, you will report to the VP - Controller, and lead all aspects of the Company's global tax function, including compliance and returns, strategy, acquisitions and integrations, provisions and financial statement disclosures, and other ad-hoc tax projects. The Director of Global Tax will be the trusted subject matter expert for all things tax related. You will play a key role in defining and structuring an effective internal global tax function, as well as develop a future-state vision for the team.

The products and technologies help make paper smoother, tissue softer, and aircraft engines and structures lighter. The company has 2 core businesses, The Machine Clothing (MC) segment -is the world's leading producer of custom-designed fabrics and belts essential to production in the paper, nonwovens, and other process industries and Engineered Composites (EC) is a rapidly growing supplier of highly engineered composite parts for the aerospace industry.

Responsibilities & Key Areas

  • Together with the VP - Controller, you will serve as a key member of the finance team in developing and implementing a robust tax function and processes
  • Lead the quarterly and annual tax provision and the preparation of income tax footnotes in accordance with US GAAP
  • Own the design and enhancements, as necessary, and oversee the execution of tax-related internal controls in accordance with Sarbanes Oxley Act, Section 404
  • Develop and implement an effective tax strategy to minimize our tax liabilities including identifying the appropriate transfer pricing policy between our various legal entities
  • Support M&A projects by explaining the tax implications to our Strategy, outside counsel, and executive leadership teams
  • Act as a partner to the business, legal and treasury teams on the tax impact of new business initiatives, acquisitions, and significant transactions
  • Assist the business in developing the annual operating plan and updating quarterly forecasts
  • Monitor and analyze tax regulatory and compliance developments, accounting pronouncements, and tax law changes and determine the implications for the Company
  • Identify, design and lead the execution of process improvements

Preferred Experience/Characteristics/ Competencies & Education



  • CPA, with Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Tax related discipline
  • 10+ years' experience, preferably within a Big Four public accounting firm and a multi-national public company global tax department
  • Deep technical expertise in U.S. GAAP tax accounting (ASC 740) and Sarbanes Oxley 404 concepts for public multi-national companies
  • Experience with U.S. federal, state and local tax compliance in a global structure; including review of returns and supporting workpapers, audit defense, as well as planning and risk reduction strategies
  • Experience serving in a role leading and directing a team of employees with responsibility for management decisions including hiring and performance management
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills, coupled with solid analytical ability to sort through complex matters and translate tax technical items into non-technical terms. Demonstrated track record of successful partnership with the business and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to think outside the box, and effectively design and implement process improvements to complete tasks more efficiently and accurately
  • Ability to lead a team and act as a mentor to develop the tax team members



Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience in tax technology and data automation tools (e.g. OneSource Tax Provision, Alteryx, UiPath, etc.)
  • Master's degree in taxation
  • Experience in leading U.S. tax due diligence efforts as well as post-acquisition planning and integration efforts, including addressing the tax accounting impact of transactions such as acquisitions, mergers, and divestitures
