JOB SUMMARY

The Sales Controller plays a vital role in overseeing the financial integrity of sales activities within a large matrix manufacturing organization. This position ensures accurate revenue recognition, robust customer program compliance, and precise financial reporting, while fostering strong relationships between finance and sales to align strategic objectives. Leading a team of three accountants, the Sales Controller collaborates with sales, operations, and finance stakeholders to drive process improvements, enhance efficiency, and deliver actionable insights, maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and compliance in sales-related financial processes.

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Manage the monthly financial close process, ensuring accurate revenue recognition, timely and proper recording of liabilities in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and accuracy of balance sheet accruals to support gross-to-net sales adjustments, co-operative advertising expenses, commissions, and royalties.
  • Oversee, develop and manage the Customer Program Accountants as they set up customer-based accruals, calculate program rebate payouts, handle customer pricing claims and interact with customers regarding queries.
  • Collaborate with sales teams, sales operations, and management to refine customer programs, enhance clarity, ensure accurate disbursements, serve as a liaison between finance and sales to foster effective communication and alignment on financial goals, and partner with departments such as marketing and supply chain to support integrated business planning.
  • Drive accurate planning and forecasting of sales-related expenses, deliver timely and precise gross-to-net reporting for management, and develop and maintain customer program reports to enhance the sales team's account management effectiveness.
  • Lead or participate in projects to enhance sales processes, financial outcomes, and cross-functional collaboration, while improving efficiency in transactional processing through enhancements and automation.
  • Manage monthly royalty accruals, quarterly payouts, and annual audits, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Manage, prepare, and approve monthly balance-sheet account reconciliations using Blackline. Providing support for annual audits and balance sheet reviews when appropriate.
  • Effectively manage, develop, and motivate direct and indirect reports
  • Responsible for all aspects of performance management including interviewing, hiring, training, performance evaluations, and recognition
  • Provide effective, constructive and appropriate feedback and leadership to direct reports to foster positive, team atmosphere; ensure personal and professional development of direct reports
  • Initiate and assist with the creation, development, and implementation of processes and procedures
  • Consistently support compliance by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, and the Company's policies and procedures
  • Understand workplace hazards and take steps to proactively prevent and report hazards or injuries in the workplace. Cooperate in safety programs, initiatives, and investigations.

Preferred Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting, or other related technical degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience with demonstrated leadership in finance or controlling roles; or combination of relevant education and experience.

Preferred Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in SAP ERP.
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required (for most of the working day) to sit and make coordinated movements of the fingers for using a keyboard.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
  • General office environment
  • May require regular ground travel to other company facilities
  • Long-distance or air travel as needed - not to exceed 15% travel
