About the role

The Lab Pack Chemist is responsible for properly segregating and packaging chemicals into DOT-approved containers and affixing the required DOT markings/labels at customer facilities, household hazardous waste collection events, and during lab moves, while working in accordance with environmental, state, and federal laws. Segregation and packaging shall be performed according to DOT and Reworld Waste acceptance guidelines and lab pack protocols. This individual will not be working directly in a lab but will operate both indoors and outdoors at plants, labs, and customer sites.

Position Responsibilities

• Evaluate chemicals/materials in various containers and segregate into compatible groups to minimize container usage for proper packaging.

• Identify highly reactive or unstable chemicals/mixtures to reduce handling risks and consult with the Lab Pack Manager to develop an appropriate plan of action.

• Perform unknown testing procedures according to Reworld Waste acceptance guidelines and lab pack protocols.

• Select appropriate DOT-approved containers for materials being packed, in accordance with RCRA and DOT regulations.

• Ensure overall quality control of hazardous, non-hazardous, and universal waste materials to be shipped.

• Understand customer-specific disposal restrictions and special packaging requirements.

• Create necessary paperwork and shipping documentation when applicable.

• Act as a representative of Reworld Waste while working independently at customer sites.

• Assist with the loading and unloading of materials from projects.

• Review lab pack profiles submitted to Reworld Waste.

• Support the management of lab pack processing and evaluation of wastes prior to processing.

• Assist in preparing quotes for sales representatives and customers.

• Coordinate turnkey lab pack projects with Reworld Waste resources and staff.

• Perform de-pack activities at the Avon location as required.

• Maintain a neat and clean working environment.

• Comply with all applicable regulations including, but not limited to, RCRA, DOT, and OSHA.

• Perform other lab pack-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• One plus year's equivalent work experience

• Maintains a clean driving record and valid driver's license.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Proficient in researching and identifying chemicals using written and digital resources.

• General knowledge of DOT, TSCA, and EPA regulations regarding the classification, packaging, and shipment of hazardous and non-hazardous waste preferred.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.

• Must obtain and maintain all required certifications including but not limited to 40-hour HAZWOPER, RCRA, TSCA, and DOT.

• Frequent travel required, including overnight travel and extended periods of driving.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor's degree in chemistry preferred

• Valid Class C CDL with hazmat endorsement or Class B desirable.

• Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb

• Ability to lift/carry 50lbs

• Qualify to wear a full-face respirator

• Consistently work in various weather conditions
