Overview:
We are seeking a Real Estate Attorney to join our dynamic Energy Department with flexibility to work out of our Des Moines, Fargo, Madison, or Mankato offices, or the Iowa City area, specializing in project development, including site control for renewable energy and infrastructure projects. In this role you will work on a diverse range of wind, solar, and transmission projects, with a focus on the real estate aspects of project development. You will be responsible for negotiating, drafting, and reviewing lease and easement agreements, title and survey review, and the corrective work required to achieve financeable site control, construction, and sale of the project. As part of our highly experienced team, you will collaborate on a wide range of real estate matters, which may include real estate support for permitting, commercial and construction contracts, and financing. Our firm's practice represents a broad spectrum of clients, including renewable energy developers, independent power producers, independent transmission companies, traditional utilities, and more. Candidates with real estate experience are encouraged to apply, and specific experience with renewable energy or infrastructure projects is a plus. Our staff attorney positions provide flexibility with respect to annual hourly expectations.

Our Ideal Candidates Will Have:
  • 3+ years of related legal experience
  • Background in real estate transactions, particularly involving lease, easement, or purchase agreement drafting, and title and survey review
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and writing skills
  • Strong academic background
  • J.D. from an ABA-Accredited Law School
  • Active attorney license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
