Part-time Clinic Adjunct Faculty - College of Law

Description

The College of Law at West Virginia University invites applications for part-time adjunct faculty positions to supervise students representing clients in the clinical law program in various areas of law. Applicants should have demonstrated expertise and practice experience in the area of law for the clinics in which they will supervise students and be committed to providing a rigorous and quality educational experiences to our students while ensuring competent representation of clients. Clinic adjuncts typically supervise one or two teams of students each semester and are asked to commit to supervising these teams for both semesters in the academic year; each team consists of two students and the composition of the teams will remain the same for both semesters.

Essential duties include:



  • Working collaboratively with clinical law faculty and staff;
  • Ensuring effective and diligent case management for all assigned cases;
  • Traveling to meetings and court proceedings as necessary;
  • Contributing to and maintaining a positive and collaborative learning environment;
  • Ensuring that students receive prompt and productive feedback concerning their work;
  • Being available and responsive to students;
  • Being aware of and following academic policies and procedures related to instruction and recordkeeping;
  • Attending all required adjunct faculty training and other meetings during the semester.

Qualifications

These positions require applicants to have a J.D. degree, an active bar license and admission to the applicable court(s) in which the clinic represents clients, evidence of being in good standing with the appropriate state or federal bar, and a minimum of three years of professional legal experience.

Additionally, the following qualifications are strongly preferred:



  • Supervisory experience in a legal practice setting.
  • A record of engagement with the College of Law.
  • A judicial clerkship or similar experience.


Applications will be accepted throughout the year and will be considered as openings arise. Salary is established on a per-team basis. Appointments will be for a specified term and renewal of the position will be based on course need. These positions are not benefits eligible.
