Job Summary:

Provide fundamental support for application software, operating systems and equipment configurations. This position will also be responsible for answering support calls, emails, and other communication from users as well as managing the Teamdynamix ticketing system.

This position provides technical expertise and support for operating systems and equipment configurations. This includes the implementation and maintenance of operating systems and software components, providing assistance in the development and assessment of hardware and software components, recommending optimum equipment and software configurations, and providing technical guidance with regard to proper data processing methods, performance standards, security measures, and systems analysis.

Duties include hardware configurations, developing system assessment and testing criteria, evaluating user needs, developing documentation to support any new systems or system modifications and developing/monitoring security protocols. Also included may be some supervisory activities or team leader responsibilities for more complex projects and training of user groups or other IT staff.

The duties require the constant vigilance and implementation of appropriate cybersecurity knowledge and policies. This may include network security, password protections, and allowing appropriate access to IT systems containing sensitive student data, employee information, or other data security restrictions.
Install software, answering questions, troubleshooting, and resolving technical-related problems in person or remotely.

**This position is set in-office and is not remote**

Job Description:

Under the direction of the Associate Director, IT Service Desk, this position will provide fundamental support for application software, operating systems and equipment configurations.

  • This includes the implementation and maintenance for software components, providing assistance in the development and assessment of hardware and software components, recommending optimum equipment and software configurations, and providing assistance to the general campus population.

  • The IT Technical Associate will be responsible for answering support calls, emails, and other communication from users with inquiries regarding various issues as well as managing the Teamdynamix ticketing system.

  • The IT Technical Associate will also be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and operational support of microcomputers and their applications.

  • Research, evaluate, and select microcomputer hardware, software, and related accessories. Support client software and/or network-independent software on end user systems.

  • Provide phone, email, chat and remote support to users within the NEIU community.

  • Position will also be responsible for the operation of the Printing Services.

  • Coordinate the activities of the Printing Services for the Universities main campus, Library and all remote campuses.

  • Ensure the proper operation of all Print/Copy/Scan/Fax network connected Multi-Function Devices.

  • Check on a daily basis all MFD units, vending towers, card readers, supplies, inventory, network connections and all other associated devices to ensure proper day to day operation of the service.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimal Qualifications:

1). High school diploma or equivalent.
2). Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:
A). College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:

  • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)

  • Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)

  • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)

  • Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)

B). Work experience in IT-related functions, such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.
3). Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position may be required.

Hours: Monday - Friday, 12:00 p.m. Noon - 8:00 p.m. (Hours may vary depending on departmental needs).

Setting: In-office.

This position will have evening and weekend hours. It may also involve visits to remote campuses.

This position requires a background check.

Salary / Hourly Rate Range

$19.75
