Position Summary:

We are looking for an enthusiastic Facilities Engineering Intern with an interest in construction to join our dynamic team. This role offers hands-on experience in supporting construction-related projects within facility engineering, including the design, development, and execution of building systems and infrastructure upgrades. The intern will collaborate with engineers and construction professionals to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget while gaining practical skills in construction management and facilities engineering.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Assist in the planning and coordination of construction projects for facility upgrades, renovations, or new installations.
  • Support the design and review of construction plans for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems, ensuring integration with existing facility infrastructure.
  • Prepare and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications using CAD software or similar tools.
  • Monitor construction progress on-site, including inspections of structural components, equipment installations, and system integrations.
  • Assist in evaluating construction materials and methods to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with project goals.
  • Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and vendors to troubleshoot construction challenges and implement solutions.
  • Document project milestones, maintain construction logs, and assist in preparing reports for stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards, building codes, and environmental regulations throughout the construction process.
  • Organize project files including timelines, quotes, drawings, etc.


Education/Experience & Skills:



  • Current enrollment in an accredited undergraduate program in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Facilities Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of construction processes, building systems (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing), and engineering principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or other design software is a strong plus.
  • Strong analytical skills and a keen eye for detail, especially in reviewing plans and identifying potential issues.
  • Ability to work in a construction environment, including occasional on-site visits, while maintaining safety awareness.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills to interact with diverse project teams.
  • Prior coursework, projects, or experience in construction or facilities engineering is preferred but not required.


Working Conditions:



  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
  • Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping, squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
