Summary:

Performs a variety of duties in support of the Mail Room, Materials Managements Shipping & Receiving, and distribution of supplies for all departments and locations

Primary duties include but are not limited to transporting mail, packages, specimens, and patient information between facilities and as necessary, outside locations. Service the facility. May be assigned to use company vehicle.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Drives assigned vehicle to destination and delivers mail, specimens, etc. to designated location.
  • Retrieves mail, specimens, etc. from designated locations and transports to Mail Room.
  • Inspects vehicle for defects before and after trips and reports any discrepancies indicating vehicle condition to Facilities Manager.
  • Performs "stat" deliveries as assigned by Facilities Service Clerk or designee.
  • Maintain effective working relations and communication with departmental and other Hawthorn Medical personnel as well as various community interactions as appropriate to the position.
  • Remain flexible in all shift coverage and overtime situations as they become necessary.
  • Deliver or route materials to departments and outside sites using a company vehicle, work device, hand trucks, conveyor, flat bed or sorting bins.
  • Load, unload, and stack equipment, materials and products.
  • Present a positive attitude and a professional appearance. Compliance with the dress code policy.
  • Customer Service skills required.
  • Must be aware of safety standards as stated by OSHA and understand all patient privacy issues and informatics as mandated by HIPPA.
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to back vehicle in and out of tight spaces including parallel parking. Must be able to maneuvers vehicle in and around tight corners and around high pedestrian traffic. Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, organizational skills; self-motivated; strong problem-solving skills; the ability to exercise independent judgment based upon established policies, protocol, or practice.


EDUCATION:

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid driver's license, safe driving record and proof of insurance is required.


Working Conditions:

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk; stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Must have the ability to lift 10 to 20 pounds on a continuous basis and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis. May be exposed to various patient conditions including infectious diseases, blood, and bodily fluids.
