General Description:

Under administrative direction, directs the overall administrative and technical operations of OU Health Laboratory Services department.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes, directs and controls laboratory service functions.
  • Develops, implements and reviews all programs, policies and procedures relating to Laboratory Services.
  • Develops and executes strategic plans and budgetary requirements.
  • Confers with hospital administrators regarding Laboratory issues.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of Laboratory functions and the ability of the departments to meet the needs of its customers.
  • Directs the interviewing, hiring, training, discipline and evaluation of employees within the department.
  • Participates in the personnel processes for the management and supervisor staff.
  • Effectively monitor and operate within established goals and maintain compliance with hospital, federal and state regulations.

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in biological science or related field required

Experience: Five (5) years of professional experience in laboratory services in a hospital, which includes 5 to 7 years of progressive leadership experience in a laboratory services program required.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: None

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of budgetary methods and fiscal management. Knowledge of federal, state and hospital rules, regulations and policies governing laboratory and work.
  • Knowledge of current laboratory practices, techniques and terminology as it relates to autopsies, chemistry, cytology, hematology, histology, microbiology and surgical pathology.
  • Knowledge of JCAHO accreditation, compliance and survey processes.
  • Familiar with the quality control requirements of a laboratory plus the related safety issues and guidelines.
  • Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of others.
  • Knowledge of report preparation.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others and manage a large department.
