JOB SUMMARY:
The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decisionmakers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.
The CSIS Economics Program and Scholl Chair in International Business focuses on international economic issues and how they impact U.S. competitiveness and economic security. Key areas of focus include trade policy, supply chain resilience, investment policy, international finance, commercial diplomacy, and new economic alliances.
CSIS seeks a Program Coordinator and Research Assistant to support the Economics Program and Scholl Chair in International Business. The Program Coordinator and Research Assistant will assist in day-to-day operations, including budget coordination, outreach efforts, event planning, supporting the internship program, and other administrative assistance. The Program Coordinator and Research Assistant will also provide research assistance on substantive projects, co-author reports and analyses with senior staff, and help formulate the Program's research agenda. This is an in-person position at the CSIS headquarters.
The minimum salary range for this position is $55,000 - $58,000. Salary and title are based on the level of experience and expertise of the chosen candidate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administrative (70%)
* Maintain Program calendars, correspondence, and travel itineraries
* Coordinate and manage event logistics for meetings, conferences, forums seminars, and briefings
* Draft and edit external correspondence and communications
* Assist in preparation of fundraising proposals and reports to donors
* Acts as a primary liaison for internal programs
* Assist with outreach activities and contacts management
* Help with the internship program, including recruitment, application review and selection, and intern supervision
* Update web and social media content
* Assist with maintaining financial oversight of the program, including budget monitoring and expense tracking
* Assist with managing day-to-day office operations in-person
Research (30%)
* Conduct research on a diverse range of issues in support of Program projects. Current research projects include but are not limited to: economic security; economic statecraft including export controls, sanctions, tariffs, and investment screening; and emerging technology supply chains.
* Research and co-author publications
* Represent the Program by participating in meetings and coordinating on joint projects within CSIS and externally
* Edit, proofread and fact check program materials for internal and external use
* Synthesize complex issues into clear and concise language to ensure program materials are relevant for a global, non-technical audience
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
* Strong candidates will have a solid academic record with a demonstrated interest in economic or trade policy issues. Competitive applicants should be in their senior year of undergraduate study or already completed a B.A. in a relevant field.
* Candidates should be critical and creative thinkers who thrive in an independent working environment with tight deadlines.
* Candidates must be able to function well as part of a friendly, small, and close-knit team.
* Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to organize and plan large-scale events and conferences. Additional administrative skills are a plus.
* Critical and creative thinking skills. Prior research experience in an independent working environment with tight deadlines preferred.
* Practical and/or academic background in the following areas is desirable but not required:
o International trade and investment policy
o International economics
o International finance
o International relations
o Climate change and sustainability policy
* Competitive candidates would be able to start by the beginning of June.
This candidate will be working alongside colleagues internal to CSIS but also with external parties, including domestic and foreign government officials. Candidates must have strong communication skills, be self-disciplined, and be detail oriented. Prior professional experience is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK CONDITIONS:
This position will be based out of our Washington DC headquarters and is expected to be in-office. The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee working in an office environment.
