Position Summary

The Director of Pastoral Care is responsible for the overall planning, development, coordination, implementation and management of the Pastoral Care Department and the clinical Pastoral Education Program. The Director participates in cross-functional teams with other disciplines focusing on improving processes and delivering excellent care. He/she is responsible for Budget planning and management, development of policies, procedures and practices pertaining to the provision of emotional and spiritual support for patients, families and staff of the University hospital.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversee, evaluate, educate, mentor, and facilitate the work of the pastoral care team
  • Provide direct pastoral care, consultation, sacraments and support to patients, families, students, and staff.
  • Determine, formulate and implement departmental strategic plans.
  • Outline and review strategic goals and policies/procedures of the pastoral care department.
  • Develop and administer the department's plan for continuous quality improvement based on ethical and religious directives and guidelines in a healthcare environment.
  • Develop, implement and manage departmental budget.
  • Procure and is accountable for supplies and machinery for the Pastoral Care office, and systems for message delivery, patient census material, religious reading materials and necessary reference materials.
  • Document annual Evaluation of chaplains to ensure that qualified staff exists to meet departmental and organizational needs.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects assigned by leadership.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in theology, Divinity, or Pastoral counseling required.
  • Board certification by an appropriate Clinical pastoral agency required.
  • Three to five (3-5) years of experience providing pastoral care in a hospital environment required.
  • Ecclesiastical endorsement by a recognized faith tradition required.
  • Three (3) years of experience in management/leadership
