General Responsibilities |
The
HCC Mathematics Department, within the Division of Foundational Learning, is seeking passionate and dedicated adjunct faculty members to join our team. Those responding to this posting will become part of a pool of applicants seeking to teach precollege-level non-credit and college-level credit mathematics courses. Successful candidates will join a collaborative department that values teamwork and strives to foster student success.
Applicants will be considered for course assignments across the fall, winter, spring, and summer terms, based on departmental needs. Faculty may be asked to teach across modalities (hybrid, face to face, online, etc.) and in accelerated (7 weeks); 10 weeks and 15-week course formats. Specific details regarding course schedules, modalities, and requirements will be provided for each term as needed. Please note that applications are reviewed periodically, and the adjunct pool is monitored at select times of the year-not continuously. Approximately 5-20 new adjunct faculty are hired annually. |
Work Performed |
- Plan, organize, and teach mathematics courses in alignment with course objectives, department guidelines, and in close collaboration with the course coordinator.
- Utilize appropriate technology and effective pedagogical principles to deliver course content in various formats including face-to-face, hybrid, online, and remote instruction.
- Complete required institutional training and engage in ongoing professional development.
- Prepare and maintain a comprehensive syllabus in accordance with department and division requirements.
- Plan and deliver effective instructional activities that promote student engagement and learning.
- Evaluate student performance using department-approved assessment tools.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback on all assignments, activities, and assessments, and keep students informed of their progress by maintaining an up-to-date electronic gradebook.
- Enter final grades by the established due date.
- Comply with institutional attendance and grading requirements.
- Participate in departmental evaluation and course assessment processes.
- Maintain open and regular communication with students, including timely responses to student emails. Use the assigned HCC email for communication with students and the department.

- The ability to use a wide variety of technology to teach mathematics is essential.
- Master's degree or higher is required.
