Position Summary

Clinical Chaplains serve as an integral part of interdisciplinary team serving patients and families cared for within UI Health Care. They advocate for and with patients and families and staff according to values consistent with patients' belief systems.

Position Responsibilities

* Responds to all inpatient and outpatient consultations and screening requests.

* Responds to all inpatient and outpatient consultations and screening requests.

* Responds to the concurrent spiritual needs of patients' families.

* Conducts spiritual assessments of patients and families.

* Develops spiritual care plans specific to the patient's individual beliefs. Creates and adjusts spiritual care plans specific to age- and diagnosis-related considerations.

* Coordinates hospital and community resources in assessment and service to patients.

* Consults with community Clergy or spiritual leaders as desired by the patient and family.

* Provides information on spiritual care, and the spiritual issues of illness, end of life, and grief to patients, families, and the public.

* Serves as a resource on the acquisition and development of educational material on spirituality and health care.

* Provides or arranges spiritual care for patients/families.

* Demonstrates knowledge of the impact a diagnosis may have on spiritual issues.

* Helps patient and/or family identify their personal and spiritual beliefs and resources.

* Participates in departmental 24 hour on-call coverage.

* Makes timely and concise clinical entries into patients' medical records covering the spiritual assessment and delivery of the spiritual care plan and visits with patients and families.

* Completes Departmental statistical reports.

* Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and development by pursuing opportunities for continuing education.

* Seeks opportunities to enhance professional knowledge, skills, and abilities as they relate to current position and benefit overall career development.

Education and Experience Requirements

* Master's degree including 1 year work experience and 1 unit of continuing education towards board certification.

Requirements

* Excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and interpret ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication methods and behaviors.

* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation. Demonstrates high attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

* Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR).

* Experience in fast-paced, high-volume work environment.

* Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multi-disciplinary team.

* Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.

Desired Qualifications

* Previous chaplaincy experience in an academic medical center setting desired.

* Previous experience with Epic electronic medical record desired.
