Description
Employee works directly with supervisor(s) to accomplish desired results within a referral and nurse triage area. This individual utilizes independent judgment and problem solving skills to resolve routine operational issues and routinely offer suggestions to improve clinic operations. In addition, the charge nurse will provide direct supervision for other medical team members (clinic nurses, medical assistants).
SIU School of Medicine does not participate in the E-Verify program. Employment eligibility will be verified in accordance with applicable state and federal laws.
Examples of Duties
I. Support of Clinical Activities 80%
Obtains complete health and nursing histories for individual and families who are patients of the clinic; utilizes this information when providing telephone triaging, direct care and patient education.
Documents the patient's evaluation, triage, and suggestion in electronic health record.
Assist departments with direct scheduling for departments.
Manages acute and/or episodic minor illness of outpatients, and recommends and initiates treatment as indicated.
Obtain/review laboratory results, charting values in medical record and relaying accurate results to patients and referring physicians when appropriate.
Send prescriptions to pharmacies per physician directive or department policies, utilizing the electronic health record system.
II. Administration20%
Establish clinical procedures in compliance with SIU School of Medicine and SIU HealthCare's policies.
Assist in all patient calls received daily. Coordinate patient calls and assist in arranging date and time of clinical appointments.
Coordinate with clinic staff all patient tests, visits, office and surgical procedures.
Be an active participant in the interview and hiring process for nursing staff. Coordinate orientation.
Provide direct supervision for clinic staff.
Attend departmental meetings as requested.
Assist in support of the Patient Access Center with Central Scheduling and Operators.
Complete evaluations of staff.
Qualifications
Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois.
Three years of work experience as a Registered Professional Nurse or 2 years work experience as a Registered Professional Nurse with 1 year of supervisory experience.
