Overview |
The Rutgers University Senate is the only advisory and legislative body that represents the entire community of faculty, students, staff, administrators, and alumni to the Rutgers president and boards. It serves as the principal advisory body to the president. On certain matters, the president acts only after receiving the advice of the Senate or giving the Senate time to present its views.
The Rutgers University Senate body consists of approximately 250 members representing faculty, including lecturers, students, staff, administrators, and alumni. The Executive Committee of the Senate is responsible for coordinating the activities of the Senate, exercising such powers as the Senate may delegate to it, and acting on the Senate's behalf between Senate meetings.
Regular meetings of the Senate are scheduled 8 to 9 times each academic year. The meetings are held on Fridays once a month at 1:10 p.m. and are open to all members of the University. The Senate Executive Committee meets on alternative Friday afternoons throughout the academic year, as well.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Manager of Operations and Executive Secretary for the University Senate. The Executive Secretary of the University Senate is the chief staff officer of the University Senate and the primary source of historical, current, and potential Senate activity and information, as well as the public face of the University Senate.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Provides advice and guidance on strategy, policy, and process to Senate leadership in all its activities.
- Monitors Senate actions for compliance with university regulations, Senate bylaws, and established parliamentary procedures.
- Tracks Senate charges and initiatives through to completion. Communicate Senate recommendations and resolutions to the University President.
- Monitors university regulations and policies for communication to the Senate.
- Oversees Senate and Executive Committee meeting logistics and manage technology for these meetings. Prepare meeting agendas and minutes.
- Serves on the University Structure and Governance Committee and other ad-hoc committees.
- Directs all functions of the Senate Office, including serving as custodian of the Senate budget and supervising the administrative assistant. Oversight of the Senate website, archives, and publications.
- Oversees the annual election process for Senate leadership and representatives to the Boards of Governors and Trustees. Coordinate unit election of senators and orientation of incoming senators.
- Exhibits a high degree of professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and collegiality.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Five (5) years of experience in higher education administration or a related field.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Writing, organization, communication, and public relations skills must be exceptional.
- Must be proficient in Office 365 and have appropriate skills for managing the budget, maintaining the University Senate's web pages, and running remote meetings and voting programs.
- Must exhibit professionalism at all times.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Master's degree.
- Experience within a public AAU institution of higher education.
- Familiarity with Rutgers' academic and administrative structure.
- Experience with WordPress.
