Posting Summary
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Sr. Laboratory Technician for the Public Health Research Institute within New Jersey Medical School.

Conducts research in cancer and host-virus interaction using clinical samples and animal models in Dr. Theresa L. Chang's laboratory.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Examines the role of host factors in mucosal immune responses to viral infection and tumorigenesis in humans and mouse models.
  • Performs a wide variety of scientific assays and tests involving the repetitive application of research methods and techniques requiring proficiency and a high degree of manipulative skill in all required methods.
  • Performs technical support research, such as multistage purifications and assays, independently, within given framework or established methods and requiring only limited responsibility for identification and matching to standardized expected result categories.
  • Determines various characteristics of materials and subjects used in laboratory experiments, prepares tissues, chemicals, living subjects, etc. for testing with responsibility for selecting appropriate techniques.
  • Records results of tests and experiments and prepares detailed graphs, tables, and reports of procedures, observations, reactions, dosages, and reaction time. By technical means, measures and observes refined phenomena in experiments, with responsibility for notifying supervisor of deviations from projected or expected results.
  • Carries out assignments in the laboratory and help manage the laboratory.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • MS Degree in the field of infectious diseases, immunology, molecular cellular biology plus 1 year research experience.
  • Or BS Degree in the field of infectious diseases, immunology, molecular cellular biology plus 2 years of research experience.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in processing primary cells from blood and tissue as well as handing mice is essential.
  • Must have excellent communication and writing skills.
