Summary:

The Manager - Race Fuels Development and Technical Support will lead our fuel development processes and be the primary technical support for the many tracks, series, and sanctions who depend on Sunoco Race Fuels products to fuel their victories. Through market research and analysis, you will help define and execute strategy to drive growth in the Race Fuels business.

Key Responsibilities:

Fuel Development



  • Work with Sales and Operations teams to develop new products to meet changing market needs
  • Assist with existing products to mitigate changes in component makeup and availability while maintaining product consistency, performance, and quality
  • Adjust existing formulations as needed to meet required specifications based on changes in components or additives
  • Become fluent in chemistry-related issues as they pertain to fuels


Blending Operations



  • Work in conjunction with Manufacturing team to monitor finished fuel properties and coordinate testing of new fuels
  • Assist Manufacturing team in monitoring Semi-Works feed and other components and supplies
  • Occasionally work with teams across the company to facilitate operational changes that may impact the Performance Products group


Quality Assurance



  • Work with Manufacturing team to support fuel testing protocols for finished fuels, component quality, and customer sample testing. Support any mitigation needed to fix deviations
  • Work closely with external and internal testing facilities to best meet department needs. Research and implement new testing methods as they become available or as they become needed. Become familiar with ASTM and other applicable testing protocols
  • Support updates to lab test database used to track, compile, analyze and communicate product and component testing results and statistical analysis
  • Become familiar with federal (EPA) and state and local fuel regulations. Occasionally assist with Certificates of Analysis (CoAs) as needed.


Technical Service and Support



  • Support technical interactions with race sanctioning bodies including preparation of technical bulletins, communications with race teams, and support of race events including attending occasional racing events and functions as needed. This includes support at every level from NASCAR to the SAE student engineering competitions
  • Support technical inquiries received by the department via phone and email. Function as the technical expert for our distributors, tracks, series, and sanctions using our 30+ fuel blends
  • Support marketing efforts by providing input and proofing content for published materials including brochures, magazine articles, banners, POS material, digital content, etc
  • Assist with trade shows like SEMA and PRI, and travel occasionally as needed for business



Required Skills / Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, & Abilities:

* Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience. Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering preferred

* Knowledge and passion for racing and combustion engines

* 8+ years relevant work experience, industry experience preferred

* Excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to present to executive management

Working Conditions:

  • Usually, normal field and office working conditions.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
