Sr. UX Designer

Role Summary

The ICC focuses on research and development of leading-edge technologies with the goal to meet the future mobility needs of the Volkswagen Group customer.

Usability ("UX") / Design ("UI") work at the ICC has always spanned these diverse goals of the ICC teams. Our value as UX/UI designer to the ICC is to support the customer experience at all stages of the product development process, from blue-sky concept ideation to benchmark usability testing of our products on market versus competitors' products. The goal of the ICC UX/UI program centers on a core aspect of the ICC's mission statement: "improving the customer experience."

Role Responsibilities

Usability Program Development and Management - (60%)

* Leads field of work at the ERL to sustainably bring ideas to life

* Defines scope, timeline, and deliverables

* Tracks project timeline and resources

* Lead the interaction with project partners/mentors within VW Group to ensure proper knowledge transfer with proper documentation for the relevant parties within VW Group

* Aligns individual goals with team goals, and ERL vision/mission

* Takes ownership of ERL design specific cluster performance metrics.

* Drives work with Team Leaders at ERL to insert best-practices UX/UI into team roadmaps

* Designs UX/UI methodologies, as well as trains and mentors others at ERL with best practice UX/UI techniques

* Initiates and implements partnerships with external partners (companies, research institutions, universities).

* Drive the work with partners across the Brands and Volkswagen Group to standardize and improve UX

* Transfers actionable improvements for improving customer experience to the relevant parties within Volkswagen Group

* Advise Volkswagen Group Safety Affairs team on government or industry guidelines related to Usability and Human Factors issues for Infotainment and DAS system interfaces

* Presents project/progress reports and presentations to top management, mentors, partners, and project affiliates.

* Initiates, organizes and leads management, PR, and Lobbying meetings at the ERL

* Represents Volkswagen Group at conferences, regulatory authorities, and the media

Network Development - (10%)

* Secures internal project funding for initiatives from the Brands and Volkswagen Group

* Expands network between Volkswagen Group and local Tier 1, Tier 2, and Universities

* Develops supplier network with local Silicon Valley companies

* Communicates regularly and influences VW/Audi partners in Germany

Resource Management - (10%)

* Helps to strategically organize personnel around usability activities at ERL

* Facilitates networking opportunities for team members

* Provides research, design, and engineering skill development opportunities for group members

* Manages internal/external project budget and resources for team, grows own sub-business

Strategic Management - (20%)

* Drives strategic planning for team project portfolio

* Secures intellectual property and develops roadmaps with an automotive focus

* Manages portfolio of intellectual property in the field

* Leads research and development activities to improve vehicle systems across all functions

* Provides a Research and Development focus

Education

Required



  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree (preferred) in Design

* Proven experience supporting all stages of the product development process with UX testing, from early stage ideation (i.e. generative UX testing) to evaluative testing of late stage infotainment system samples or products on market

* Familiarity with Automotive Infotainment and Driver Assistance system interface issues

* Data analysis experience using SPSS or other statistical software

* Creation of creative directions across new conceptual models of UI (user interface)

* Create and develop motion graphics based off of the UI that you create.

* High level of engagement and self-initiative

* Focus on customer orientation

* Strong communication skills, problem solving abilities, and influencing and negotiation skills

Work Flexibility

* International and domestic travel to meet with internal/external partners

* Regular conference attendance for HMI and Human Factors topics

* Travel for internal and external shows for communication of project progress, results, and transfer

In Belmont, California, the salary range for this role is $128400 -$190000, depending on education and experience.
