Role Summary

The Crete Area Medical Center (CAMC) CFO is responsible for providing financial leadership to the organization. The position works closely with the CEO to ensure strong financial performance by establishing appropriate performance standards, qualifications and expectations. This role ensures legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions. The CFO is responsible for the proper planning and allocation of resources under their control to include the preparation and monitoring of the annual operating budget and financial objectives consistent with CAMC's strategic plan. All duties are performed consistent with CAMC's standards and behaviors.

The CFO's principal duties and responsibilities include:



  • Committing to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrating the Bryan Health and CAMC core values.
  • Oversees performance standards/metrics for each of the departments within the division and evaluates the performance against the standards; coaches and assists the managers in improving their planning and performance.
  • Understands the accounting and financial reporting regulations related to all governmental programs.
  • Identifies appropriate internal controls for department and provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance and coordinates the annual audit, cost report preparation, and 990 preparation with outside auditing firm(s) as needed.
  • Has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Medicare cost report and understands cost report compliance and opportunities to maximize cost reimbursement.
  • Evaluates the clinic financial statements and operations (including physicians' productivity reports and physicians' employment contracts) and prepares appropriate analysis.
  • Works with the corporate accounting team to develop and maintain the accounting system used in evaluating department costs and profitability and provides information as needed to make managerial decisions.
  • Compiles information and performs comparative analysis to other hospitals and clinics; determines benchmarks to be used in evaluating processes and productivity throughout CAMC.
  • Consistently analyzes financial data and presents financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicates monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements; monitors progress and changes, and keeps senior leadership abreast of CAMC's financial status.
  • Works with CEO and senior leadership to use data analytics to develop business plans for new, or growing existing, business opportunities.
  • Supports the CAMC CEO in engaging the board and its committees around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery.
  • Assists management in managing both productivity and volumes by providing summary and detailed statistical reports showing resource consumption and unit costs.
  • Evaluates the financial feasibility of new or existing services and programs; accesses a wide variety of data bases and reports to prepare analytical reports and special studies.
  • Evaluates and manages CAMC's payer contractuals and advises the CEO and Board of Directors on material changes in contractual estimates or issues as needed.
  • Guarantees accurate and timely preparation of monthly financials for distribution, and presentation, to CEO, management of CAMC, Bryan Health, and CAMC Board of Directors.
  • Develops a relationship with CAMC's and Bryan Health's auditing firms and ensures that annual audits are performed appropriately and timely. Seeks to ensure audit has no controllable adjustment entries.


Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have served as a successful Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or in a leadership role with progressive responsibility for an organizations accounting, finance and budgeting processes for a minimum of five (5) years, preferably in a Critical Access Hospital. Must have a bachelor's degree in accounting, healthcare administration, business or other directly related field of study. Active CPA is preferred. Must have strong leadership and operational experience.

The Organization

Crete Area Medical Center (CAMC), a critical access facility that has been part of the Bryan Health system for over twenty years, is considered one of the premier rural health facilities in Nebraska. CAMC is a modern healthcare system that includes a 15-bed critical access hospital that offers acute care, outpatient, emergency, OB services and much more. CAMC and their family of providers, three Board Certified Family Practice physicians and seven advanced practice providers, are committed to delivering a better future for the community they live in and serve. With medical clinics in Crete, Friend and Wilber, they are the primary source of healthcare for many of the surrounding rural communities and a recognized leader in providing a continuum of healthcare to over 7,000 residents in the community of Crete in addition to the 7,000 residents that call Saline County home

CAMC provides a nurturing environment for patients, residents, medical staff, specialty providers, and all employees. Through a team of 188 employees, CAMC is focused on serving the mission of, "advancing the health of the communities and region it serves through collaboration, prevention, innovation and exceptional care." The Medical Center also works in tandem with physicians from across the state to offer eighteen professional outpatient specialty clinics.

The Community

Crete is located in the northeast corner of Saline County, about 25 miles from Lincoln, the state capital. The city is home to 7,566 residents, several major industries, a high achieving public school district and parochial grade school, growing business community, new public library, beautiful public parks, over a dozen churches, many active volunteer organizations, and a nationally recognized, liberal arts university. The Crete community is a destination for family living, business development and a variety of activities for all ages.

Crete continues to be a very progressive community. There are currently five housing subdivisions in various phases of construction to add much needed housing. In December 2024 senior housing will also get a major boost with the completion of a $3.7 million development that will include 30 units designed for residents age 55 and older. Investments are also being made in education with the addition of new dorms at Doane University and renovation of the Crete Public School districts welcome center and administration offices. Crete also continues to be a very attractive home to new businesses which includes several restaurants, retail, banking, hotels, and a significant investment in downtown revitalization. This is truly a growing community with small town rural charm.
