Job Purpose

The Global Epidemiology Team provides leadership and expertise to develop and execute the Global Epidemiology Plan across the entire spectrum of drug development, from early discovery to registration and lifecycle management. As a Senior Director in Oncology Epidemiology, you will provide scientific leadership in the application of epidemiological expertise and methods to inform drug development and disease strategies. This position provides leadership through strategic and technical input into programs by managing epidemiologist contributions on disease strategy teams and asset-level teams, such as the Medicine Development Team (MDT), Clinical Development Team (CMT), and Safety Review Team (SRT), and through agenda-drive participation at GSK governance bodies.

Key Responsibilities

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Ensure alignment of the Global Epidemiology Plan with the broader asset/disease strategy and play a role in ensuring that key stakeholders understand the impact of epidemiology on the asset/disease strategy.

  • Provide expert epidemiological consultation to asset matrix teams (Clinical Development Team, Safety Review Team, Medicine Development Team).

  • Contribute to departmental initiatives driving innovative solutions through evaluation of tools, methodologies or processes.

  • An internal expert who may represent GSK on scientific discussions with internal governance bodies and external regulators/external conferences.

  • Lead or contribute to epidemiology content for regulatory submission documents; interact with regulatory agencies and other external authorities as needed

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior epidemiologists and other team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment

  • Contribute to advancing the science through membership of external initiatives (e.g. ICPE, IMI).

  • Plan resource allocation to accomplish multiple research projects and attain project and study timelines.

  • Identify innovative, timely and cost-effective methods to conduct epidemiologic studies.

  • Communicate study findings to relevant internal and external audiences effectively.

  • Present the company position on epidemiology issues and epidemiology findings to regulatory agencies and other external authorities.

Why you? Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD., ScD or DrPH) in epidemiology

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Epidemiology in a pharmaceutical company

  • Knowledge of drug and clinical development process

  • Experience operating in a matrix environment with independent delivery of increasingly complex epidemiological studies including regulatory requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Ability to work well within a business-driven environment, establish cross-functional relationships, balance priorities and handle multiple tasks through good planning, project administration, and organization skills

  • Understanding of regulations relevant to application of epidemiology to clinical development and safety

  • Demonstrated epidemiological expertise and developing the ability to influence key internal (matrix leaders) and external (regulators) stakeholders specifically around scientifically robust and strategic approaches to delivering epidemiological science to answer key asset challenges.

  • Highly proficient written, verbal and listening skills.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently to develop credibility with colleagues within and outside Epidemiology, as well as interact effectively in multi-disciplinary matrix teams to influence decisions.

  • Expertise in complex research techniques, tools, and procedures (e.g. quantitative research methods, multiple study designs).

  • Problem-solver; ability to see solutions to complex, unique situations where the epidemiological principles need to be applied.

  • Ability to work well within a global and matrix environment, balance priorities, and handle multiple tasks through good planning, project administration, and organization skills.
