Position Overview

The Sustainability Director will lead the company's efforts to integrate sustainable practices into all phases of home building, from design and construction to operation and post-construction. This role involves driving the development and execution of a sustainability strategy that minimizes environmental impact, maximizes energy efficiency, and promotes long-term ecological responsibility, while ensuring cost-effectiveness and compliance with relevant environmental regulations and standards.

    Ideal qualifications would consist of someone who has experience within the construction field with an emphasis on advancing sustainability through energy efficiency. Working with an array of green building and energy programs, advocating for supportive policies and strategic opportunities to expand the use of independent 3rd party rating systems. Someone certified as a RESNET HERS Rater, Rater Trainer, and QA Delegate, as well as credentials as a LEED AP Homes, NGBS Green Verifier and IECC Residential Inspector and Plans Examiner would also be helpful.

Key Responsibilities

  • The incumbent in this position will work closely with Senior Staff of to:
  • Monitor compliance with RESNET standards by RESNET Accredited Rating Providers and their Quality Assurance Designees (QADs) by conducting assessments remotely and onsite as needed.
  • Conduct in-depth, onsite investigations of compliance and ethics complaints; convey findings to a RESNET Quality Assurance Project Manager and offer recommendations to the RESNET Managing Director of Quality Assurance for correcting any deficiencies.
  • Investigate anomalies and results collected through the evaluation of ratings as directed by Quality Assurance Team managers. Determine appropriate action to address any deficiencies.
  • Prepare and provide written reports and photo documentation in support of compliance and ethics investigations.
  • Provide field support and regular communications to RESNET QADs/Quality Assurance Contractors and Builders.
  • Provide regular summary reports to the Managing Director about field activities, meetings, and regional developments.
  • Notify the Managing Director of Quality Assurance when field training is needed and conduct field training with RESNET QADs / Quality Assurance Contractors. Document all training, including but not limited to what was covered, who participated, and the date and time for the training.
  • Provide technical support to RESNET QADs / Quality Assurance Contractors.
  • Conduct field visits and onsite quality assurance monitoring at the request of authorized stakeholders (e.g., builders, utility program implementers, homeowners, etc.).
  • Strengthen RESNET's regional presence and enhance the RESNET Quality Assurance Team's knowledge of regional codes, utility programs, and building practices by attending regional meetings and forming working relationships with key stakeholders at the state and local level.
  • Perform file quality assurance reviews in accordance with RESNET's MINHERS Chapter 9 and Federal Program Home Certification Organization (HCO) Agreements.
  • Assist the RESNET Quality Assurance Team's efforts to improve RESNET Standards by participating in assigned Standard Development Committee (SDC) meetings and drafting amendments/comments as directed.
  • Assist the Quality Assurance Field Specialist with formal training of QADs.
  • Stay abreast of current industry trends and regulations, technical data, new standards, new equipment, and audit practices. Offer recommendations for enhancing RESNET practices and requirements related to quality assurance and RESNET Standards.
  • Assist other RESNET Quality Assurance Team members with administrative duties related to implementation of RESNET's Quality Assurance Programs as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience as HERS Rater or Rating Field Inspector (RFI) equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a certified RESNET Quality Assurance Designee (QAD) or equivalent.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of sustainable building materials, energy-efficient technologies, and green building standards (RESNET, BTR, ESG, Green MBS, LEED, BREEAM, HERS rating etc.).
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to inspire and educate others on sustainability principles.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability reporting frameworks.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to assess and improve sustainability performance metrics.

Compensation

  • Base Salary: $70,000-$110,000
  • FLSA Status: Exempt
  • Bonus Type: Year-end Discretionary
