Responsibilities

Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a 108 bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment for psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages 11-18yrs. Newport News has an on-site certified school, therapists, and vocational programming. Newport News, VA is a beautiful seaside city, rich in maritime history and conveniently located to DC and other major North Eastern cities.

Position Summary

The Primary Therapist is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the delivery of inpatient, continuing care and family services. This includes providing clinical support to other staff members, conducting interventions, conducting psychosocial assessments, developing the resident's treatment plan, conducting group, individual and family therapy.

Job Duties:

  • Monitors adherence to the program schedule and assists the multidisciplinary team in coordinating the resident's care.
  • Attends and assists in treatment team meetings and clinical staffing meetings.
  • Participates in group and individual supervision.
  • Communicates with unit staff regarding resident's progress.
  • Provides admissions personnel with ongoing admissions and discharge information.
  • Participates in AMA prevention and intervention activities.
  • Completes an initial bonding session with the resident within 24 hours of admission or by the next business day.
  • Conducts emotional, behavioral and social assessment within 7 days of admission, and determines what, if any, further assessments are needed (psychological, vocational, etc.).

Qualifications

Must have a Master's Degree and be licensed or licensed eligible in the State of Virginia in the field of psychology or a related field. Must have at least two years experience conducting group, individual and family therapy using a variety of treatment modalities. Must have at least one year treating a variety of mental health disorders. Prefer 1 year experience working and/or treating adolescents.
