Job Summary:

This position will work within the Bureau of Prevention, Treatment and Recovery (BPTR), in the WI Department of Health Services (DHS). This position is a statewide position that is responsible for supporting programs that provide peer support to peers with mental health and/or substance use issues. It is also responsible for the promotion of recovery, empowerment and meaningful participation for peers and families throughout mental health and substance use systems. In addition, the position serves as a resource by providing training and technical assistance to create an infrastructure to allow for, encourage, and sustain the inclusion of recovery principles and peer supports in Tribal communities, counties, and local agencies. The position promotes the WI State's peer specialist training, certification, and peer services throughout the state for both mental health and substance use systems.


Responsibilities:
Organizes the development and delivery of outreach programs, including the responsibility for staffing. Assists with policy development and organizes resources to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences.

  • 5% Directs the implementation of program policies and procedures
  • 30% Identifies, promotes, and maintains internal and external partnerships to promote the outreach program
  • 5% Schedules and secures logistics and resources in support of an outreach program
  • 30% Schedules day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
  • 30% Identifies opportunities for program improvement or new outreach program development

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in Social Services or related field preferred.


Qualifications:

-At least 3 years of related experience preferred.

-Current Wisconsin Certified Peer Specialist or Certified Parent Peer Specialist required.

Knowledge/Skills Required:
-Demonstrated skill in working independently and within a team and with a variety of stakeholders.
-Ability to organize work to meet program deadlines, while working on numerous tasks at the same time
-Detail oriented with strong organizational and management skills
-Strong interpersonal communication and writing skills
-A working knowledge of computer software including Microsoft suite, e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point.

Knowledge/Skills Preferred:
-Knowledge of recovery principles, peer support and meaningful involvement of peers and families in mental health and substance abuse services.
-Ability to work cooperatively with others in small and large group settings and demonstrates good judgment.
-Experience and/or knowledge of mental health and substance use services in Wisconsin.


License/Certification:

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

This position offers the option to work remotely up to 5 days per week and may be headquartered at one of the central or regional office buildings throughout the state. You will need to go into the office periodically for meetings, events, training, onboarding, and other operational needs.

Additional Information:

University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship.
