Position Details:

The Child Mind Institute (CMI) is looking for an Educational Specialist to work with students and families providing school placement and educational consultation services. You will have an exciting opportunity to build and develop these services along with senior clinical leadership. You will show a commitment to developing relationships with regional school programs and willingness to travel to visit these programs and market our services. The Educational Specialist will work with individuals who have language or learning disorders, ADHD, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, and other conditions that interfere with school functioning including intellectual disabilities, emotional disorders, and nonverbal learning weaknesses.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Learning Center, this role is exempt, part-time and onsite (3 days in office per week).

You Will:
  • School Placement Consultation - Consult with families and clinicians to provide tailored school placement recommendations based on students' individual needs.

  • School Visits & Relationship Building - Visit and assess regional public, private, specialized, and special education schools to determine appropriate placements and strengthen partnerships.

  • Partnership Development - Establish and maintain relationships with New York-area schools, learning specialists, and educational therapists to support families and inform clinical staff.

  • Student Educational Profiling - Develop comprehensive student learning profiles, including cognitive strengths and weaknesses, learning disabilities, and other relevant academic and behavioral considerations.

  • Professional Outreach & Service Promotion - Provide information about CMI programs to school partners, increasing awareness and access to CMI services.

  • Writing & Public Engagement - Contribute to professional reports, presentations, and public speaking engagements to share expertise and promote educational consultation services.

  • Travel & External Representation - Travel locally within the tri-state area to visit schools and represent CMI's educational consultation services at relevant events. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required based on family and school availability.

  • Other job-related tasks as assigned.

You Have:
  • Master's in education, learning disabilities, special education, or related fields

  • Certified or willingness to become certified by the Independent Educational Consultants Association

  • Minimum of three years of experience in learning support, education or school admissions in the New York area

  • Demonstrated experience with professional writing as well as with public speaking,

  • Experience maintaining an influential network of colleagues in the field of education.

  • In depth and up-to-date knowledge of New York area public and private schools, their curriculum and student body and tri-state specialized and special education schools.

Pay Range

The salary range for the position is posted. Factors such as candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations affect the salary offered within this range. In addition, this salary may be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state and depending on the role), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
