The Fabrication Services team at The Jackson Laboratory is seeking an intern to join their team in Bar Harbor this summer. Over 14-16 weeks, the intern will gain hands-on experience with advanced technology and automated systems. They'll receive mentorship from industry experts and have the opportunity to network with scientists and engineers working on cutting-edge solutions to advance scientific discoveries

About Your JAX Internship Experience

Join peers selected from educational institutions across the country for a summer of professional growth and career exploration. As a JAX Intern, you will receive a dedicated mentor in your department and connect with your fellow interns through JAX-sponsored activities.

The ideal start date and end dates for this position are May 19, 2025 - August 29, 2025

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, fabrication, and testing of automated mouse feeding devices

  • Collaborate with the engineering team to develop and implement embedded systems.

  • Write and debug code in Python, C, C++, Java, and ARM assembly for device applications.

  • Contribute to electronic product development and optimization to meet design goals

  • Participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions to generate innovative solutions.

  • Learn and apply new CAD tools for device fabrication.

  • Document and present project progress and results culminating in a final report and presentation of your work

Desired Qualifications

JAX encourages applications from a diverse mix of educational backgrounds and experiences. Preferred qualifications include:

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Proficiency in Python, C, C++, Java, and ARM assembly.

  • General understanding of embedded systems and electronic product development. -

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

  • Willingness to learn new CAD tools for device fabrication.
