The Medical Lab Scientist will ensure the prompt, efficient, and accurate delivery of laboratory test results for medical prognosis and research, manage documentation for quality control and compliance, maintain laboratory equipment and inventory, participate in quality initiatives, and perform assigned CLIA roles to support various lab operations and shifts.

The work hours for this opportunity is weekday from 1:00 pm - 9:30 pm, rotate weekend every 4th week (weekend hours from 3:00 pm -11:30 pm). Included on the holiday rotation.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Execute prompt, efficient, and accurate performance, validation, and reporting of laboratory test results which are utilized for the purpose of prognosis, diagnosis, treatment and research.

  • Conduct ongoing documentation of all processes as required (e.g., QC, compliance, appropriate usage of material/ equipment/ PPE).

  • Comply with document and record management requirements.

  • Perform quality control activities (e.g., reagent, analyzer), document results and escalate issues as required.

  • Assist in set-up, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting activities for equipment within lab under guidance.

  • Participate in ongoing lab inventory planning, monitoring, and management.

  • Assist in updating assigned sections of the procedure and preventive maintenance manuals to reflect current practices.

  • Collect quality data, as assigned, and assist in Quality Program initiatives as required.

  • Comply with all standards/ requirements of hospital and licensing/ accrediting agencies.

  • Inform supervisor of unusual observations or occurrences in a timely manner.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.

  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology/medical laboratory science or in one of the biological, chemical or physical sciences and completion of a medical laboratory training program required.

Minimum Experience:

  • Medical Laboratory skills obtained through clinical rotations or training are required

  • Medical Laboratory work experience preferred.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only:

  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Technologist from an approved accrediting organization (e.g.,, ASCP, AMT, NRCC, ABB, ASCPi (if taken after January 2015) is required within six (6) months of hire if not licensed in Tennessee as a medical laboratory professional.

    Acceptable licenses are Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT)-General, Medical Laboratory Supervisor-General or Categorical Supervisor, Special Analyst or Categorical Technologist in assigned laboratory section.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $29.00 - $50.50 per hour for the role of Medical Lab Scientist- Microbiology (Evening Shift).
