Position Summary

The Equipment Engineer is responsible for managing and optimizing the performance, maintenance, and procurement of construction equipment to support heavy civil engineering projects. This role ensures that all equipment meets safety standards, operates efficiently, and aligns with Forgen's core values and safety culture. The Equipment Engineer will collaborate with project managers and field teams to minimize downtime and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities



  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance by in-house mechanics and third-party vendors, prioritizing field requests to minimize downtime.
  • Assist Construction Managers in negotiating and acquiring rental equipment; review and approve rental agreements.
  • Coordinate mobilization and demobilization of equipment to and from job sites efficiently.
  • Implement and enforce equipment policies, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by identifying risks and ensuring proper safety practices for equipment use.
  • Operate heavy equipment as needed and perform skilled construction, maintenance, and manual tasks.
  • Develop preventive maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
  • Analyze equipment performance data to recommend improvements and cost-saving initiatives.


Basic Qualifications



  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • 3 year's experience in fleet management.
  • Experience with heavy civil projects involving earthworks, deep foundations, or geotechnical applications.
  • Knowledge of NCCER standards and training programs.
  • 30 Hour OSHA training.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to drive on behalf of company business.


Preferred Qualifications



  • The following safety training is preferred, but not mandatory. Company will provide additional training, as necessary.

    • 40 Hour HAZWOPER training.
    • Competent Person Safety Training
    • 8-Hour Supervisory Training
    • 30-Hour OSHA Construction Safety Training
    • First Aid and CPR




Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role requires lifting up to 50 pounds, extended standing or walking on project sites, climbing in and out of equipment, and working in confined spaces or at heights. Work conditions and demands may vary, with possible exposure to heavy machinery, chemicals, dust, fumes, noise, and extreme weather. Proper PPE, including protective eyewear, gloves, a hard hat, and steel-toed boots, is required. Effective communication, tool use, and adherence to safety protocols are essential.
