Job Summary: The Financial/Coding Assistant is responsible for auditing financial accounts, data collection for billing produced from all GYN/OB visits and globals, as well hospital procedures and consults as requested. Manages work queues and RQIs for assigned areas. Reviews all financial contracts and payment plans for patients in assigned area, continually monitoring payment activity, making adjustments as necessary, and obtaining additional authorization for services as required; informs physicians in a timely manner of uncovered services. Serves as a resource to faculty and residents regarding appropriate documentation for billing and coding. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Completion of a medical coding course with certification preferred. Minimum of two years experience in medical billing and coding for all insurance types.
Knowledge and Skills: Working knowledge of ICD and CPT coding systems and comprehension of fundamental medical terminology. Able to keyboard 40 wpm. Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision. Distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.
Licensures and Certifications: Medical coding certification preferred.
