The Kentucky gigafactory in Bowling Green will supply Mercedes-Benz with high-performance battery cell modules. The South Carolina gigafactory in Florence will supply technology-leading battery cells for new electric models produced in BMW Group's Spartanburg plant. About the Role
The Data Scientist is a professional position responsible for developing data-driven insights and analytics to support the AESC Battery Plant production facility's operations. The Data Scientist will analyze complex datasets, build predictive models, and develop dashboards to monitor plant performance and operational efficiencies. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to implement data-driven strategies, identify improvement opportunities, and enhance decision-making for long-term success.
What You Will Do
- Works cross-functionally with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality teams to identify data-driven opportunities to continuously improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Monitors production and operational data, providing actionable insights and recommendations to optimize plant processes and maximize performance.
- Responds to operational needs by developing predictive models and advanced analytics to troubleshoot issues and support decision-making.
- Develops and maintains dashboards, reports, and data visualization tools to track key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Responsible for creating and documenting data pipelines and analytics procedures to ensure data accuracy and accessibility for cross-functional teams.
- Supports process changes, data-driven improvement initiatives, and advanced analytics projects for Kaizen and other optimization activities.
- Leads the development of machine learning models and algorithms to support new initiatives and improve operational efficiencies.
- Provides data and analytics representation for cross-functional activities involving other disciplines such as Facilities and Controls.
- Demonstrates strong data-driven problem-solving methodology and effectively presents insights and recommendations to all levels of management.
- Conducts regular data quality audits and ensures compliance with data governance best practices.
- Performs all other related assignments (including special projects) as required in a professional and cooperative manner.

Qualifications
What You Need
- Bachelor's degree in data science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Previous experience working in data analytics, machine learning, or related fields in a manufacturing environment, preferred.
- Must be a self-motivated individual with strong written and verbal communication skills and a data-driven decision-making mindset.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis, data modeling, and the application of machine learning algorithms.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.
- Strong proficiency in Python, R, or SQL; familiarity with data manipulation, analysis, and machine learning libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn).
- Ability to quickly understand and analyze operational and production data to generate actionable insights.
- Independent, driven, eager to learn, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and quality teams to apply data-driven solutions to manufacturing challenges.
- Strong experience in data gathering, tracking, and consolidation from multiple sources.
- Ability to create clear and actionable reports, dashboards, and presentations for various audiences.
- Familiarity with project management and collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, Google Calendar, and Office 365.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply statistical and technical knowledge to real-world manufacturing issues.
- Experience working and collaborating in cross-disciplinary teams, including engineering, operations, and IT.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage complex data and prioritize tasks efficiently.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex data concepts and insights to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proficient in MS Office applications and knowledge of AutoCAD and Inventor.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, OneNote, SharePoint).
- Proficiency with conferencing systems (Microsoft Teams)
- Understands and follows all standards of IATF16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)
- Understands and follows all standards of ISO14001 environmental standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)
What is "Nice to Have"?
- Experience in a high-volume manufacturing facility or a similar fast-paced, data-intensive environment is a plus.
- Experience with deploying machine learning models into production environments is a plus.

Work Environment
The work environment is primarily an automated manufacturing plant with a concrete floor and is characterized by some temperature extremes, moderate noise, and forklift traffic.
