Overview

APRN Cardiology

Location: Bridgeport Hospital, Bridgeport, CT. HVC/Angioplasty Suite

Schedule: Monday-Friday; 10-hour days, usually from 7 AM to 5 PM, with some variability in start and end times. No weekends or call. Seeking someone with flexible availability to cover leave and PTO as needed, with no set days.

Start Date: March/April 2025

A nurse practitioner is a licensed, practitioner who is responsible for providing and coordinating primary care to an identified panel of patients including history, assessment, planning, intervention and consultation. The APRN works collaboratively within the practice support staff, with other APCs, and physicians, and utilizes a team approach in the care of the patient. The APC may diagnose illness and physical conditions and perform or order therapeutic and corrective measures. Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients by interview, health history, physical exam and diagnostic tests. Participates in quality and patient satisfaction improvement initiatives. Carries out responsibilities independently, if so certified, or with minimal need for supervision if not so certified. Maintains practice within the defined scope of practice for an APRN Exemplifies behaviors reflecting Service Excellence and support of the Strategic Dimensions by modeling the Core Success Factors as described in the Performance Review.

Responsibilities

  • Independent Functioning and Patient Management: Functions independently and maintains a panel of patients as the assigned Primary Care Provider (PCP).

  • Excellence in Patient Care: Demonstrates excellence in completing patient history, physical exams, and assessments appropriate to the patient population.
  • Proficiency in Treatment Plans: Demonstrates proficiency in developing and implementing treatment plans and interventions. Works collaboratively with other Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs), physicians, or specialists when indicated. Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
  • Clinical Supervision and Resource Provision: Directs and provides clinical supervision to nursing staff as appropriate. Serves as a resource for nursing staff and APRN students when indicated.
  • Family Resource: Serves as a valuable resource for families.
  • Ethical Practice: Integrates ethical principles into all areas of practice.
  • Effective Communication: Maintains regular communication with patients, families, and colleagues as appropriate regarding progress and treatment plans.
  • Educational Facilitation:

Qualifications

Procedures:

  • Managing pre and post cardiac procedure patients, including:

    • Loop recorders

    • Transesophageal echocardiograms

    • Electrical cardioversions

    • Heart catheterizations with angioplasty

    • Peripheral angioplasty

    • Pacemaker implants

    • Defibrillator implants

    • Cardiac ablations

    • Watchman procedures

  • Performing non-invasive cardiac procedures, such as:

    • Tilt table testing

    • Stress testing

Setting:

  • 90% outpatient setting

  • 100% adult cases

  • 11 patient bed unit

  • Level II trauma center

Patient Volume: 20 patients per day

Supporting Staff:

  • Work directly with 2 other APPs sharing the patient volume/load

  • Manage patients with cardiologists, electrophysiologists, and interventionalists

  • Staff includes 2 PAs, 4 APRNs, and 1 collaborating physician

EMR: Epic

Education

Educational preparation at the Master's Level of nursing. Graduation from an accredited Advanced Nurse Practitioner program required. Additionally, holds a BSN degree from an accredited institution.

Experience

1-3 years of clinical experience related to the specialty of the practice is preferred. APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs are required to be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS Hospital and credentialed through the Medical Staff process. Evidence of current competence to practice as an APRN, PA, CRNA, or CNM via appropriate reference letters from physicians and other practitioners must be obtained during the Medical Staff appointment process to be eligible.

Licensure

Certified as APRN by the Nursing Certification Board or American Nurses Credentialing Center. Must hold a valid state RN and APRN license. May hold a State Independent Practice license if qualified. Active CBLS, ACLS, and DEA licenses required.
