Mechanical Engineering Intern

Vestas - American Wind Technologyhas an immediate opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support the mechanical aspects of Vestas wind turbine installation and maintenance. This position supports the Mechanical Engineering department in performing mechanical engineering assignments using troubleshooting, root cause analysis and mechanical design with some latitude for action and decision making.

Responsibilities:

General:



  1. A basic understanding of WTG product technology around mechanical systems.
  2. Possesses the ability to communicate with other engineers, field technicians and the Operations organization as a developing subject matter expert on mechanical systems topics.
  3. Assist in the development and maintenance of region-specific technical documentation in support of mechanical systems.
  4. Assist Mechanical Engineers in root cause analysis as required to resolve mechanical anomalies during turbine installation, commissioning and service.
  5. Assists in the development of cost-effective technical solutions for mechanical systems issues.
  6. In cooperation with VAME Engineers, coordinates activities with corporate engineering Research & Development department located in Denmark.
  7. Assists with internal failure analysis in support of commercial considerations.
  8. Able to present an overview of internship projects and conclusions to the Engineering department.


Construction Support:



  1. Supports the Evaluation of construction-related issues regarding turbine installation.
  2. Assists in preparation and maintenance of necessary drawings, specifications, and documents for project installations and continuous improvement projects associated with construction.


Service Support:



  1. Assists with corrective action projects to analyze and resolve field failures of mechanical systems/components for wind turbine generators.
  2. Under supervision, responds to technical inquiries from service personnel, project managers, and external customers.
  3. Assists with preparation and maintenance of necessary drawings, specifications, and documents for wind turbine generator maintenance and continuous improvement projects associated with in-service turbines.
  4. Assists with testing and inspection work in the North American region to assist R&D with ongoing improvement testing.
  5. Assists in the design of special tools and processes for wind turbine up tower repairs. Ensures compliance with all applicable electrical codes.


Qualifications:



  • Enrollment in Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Program
  • Ability to work in demanding situations and handle multiple responsibilities in a deadline-driven environment
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient organizational skills, ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Flexibility working in an evolving and changing organization.
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically in MS Office products and AutoCAD
  • A highly motivated and organized person who can operate effectively with limited oversight
