The Opportunity:

UCF IT seeks applicants for an experienced Enterprise Architect IV! The Enterprise Architect IV will play an essential role in merging infrastructure and network disciplines within UCF IT's telecommunications ecosystem, bringing together traditional telecom engineering practices with private cloud and network architecture. This role is responsible for designing, optimizing, and maintaining the architectural integrity of telecom applications, supporting the continuous improvement of network throughput and uptime monitoring capabilities. Emphasis is placed on implementing SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) principles across network and infrastructure teams, with a focus on standardization, documentation, and automation.

Responsibilities:

System Architecture and Design:


  • Develop and maintain the architectural design for telecom applications and underlying infrastructure, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security. Integrate network monitoring tools, including PRTG, Netflow, and others, to ensure effective, centralized monitoring of network performance and service availability. Collaborate across teams to align telecom application architecture with broader UCF IT infrastructure goals, ensuring synergy between network services, telecom, and private cloud infrastructure.



System Optimization and Automation:


  • Drive the adoption of automation principles across network and infrastructure teams to improve reliability, reduce manual processes, and ensure consistency. Implement and manage automation tools to streamline the monitoring and maintenance of network applications, ensuring rapid issue resolution and minimized downtime. Develop automated workflows and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) practices for efficient deployment, monitoring, and scaling of telecom applications.



Documentation and Standards Development:


  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for system architecture, standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides for telecom applications. Develop standards and best practices for system deployment, configuration, and maintenance, ensuring alignment with UCF IT policies and regulatory requirements. Act as the primary resource for mentoring team members in documentation practices, promoting knowledge sharing across UCF IT teams.



Monitoring, Optimization, and Performance Management:


  • Ensure the network and telecom monitoring tools are properly configured to assess network throughput, latency, uptime, and overall performance. Lead the integration of multiple monitoring platforms into unified dashboards to provide a consolidated view of network and application performance. Conduct regular performance assessments to identify and resolve bottlenecks or potential issues within telecom applications and network infrastructure. Provide actionable insights and make data-driven recommendations for enhancing service delivery, based on monitoring and performance data.



Collaboration and Integration:


  • Serve as a key liaison between the Unified Communications, Network Services, and UCF IT infrastructure teams, ensuring cohesive project planning, design, and implementation. Collaborate with cloud and network engineers to drive interoperability and integration between telecom applications and on-premises or hybrid cloud environments. Foster cross-functional partnerships to align telecom applications and network design with university-wide strategic objectives.



Security and Compliance:



  • Ensure that telecom applications and network configurations meet the highest security standards, maintaining compliance with UCF IT policies and industry regulations. Implement and enforce security controls for access management, data protection, and application integrity across telecom applications. Support disaster recovery planning and testing to guarantee business continuity and data resilience.

  • Other duties as assigned.




Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience; or High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 9 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:



  • 8-10 years of experience in enterprise systems architecture.

  • Experience with network monitoring tools, including PRTG, Netflow, and others.

  • Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments.

  • Relevant certifications related to networking and systems architecture (ex: CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, PCNSE).

  • Experience with ServiceNow or other ticketing systems for IT service management.

  • Strong technical leadership experience with a history of successful cross-functional collaboration.

  • Experience with infrastructure automation technologies such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar experience in.

  • Experience with firewall architecture design and implementation.




Special Instructions to the Applicants:

This is a hybrid position with 3 in-office days per week.

Applicant must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer, as sponsorship is not available for this position.

This position must be available 24/7 in case of an emergency and may be asked to work during emergency situations including early, late, weekend, holiday hours and/or university closures such as during a hurricane. UCF IT is considered a "mission essential" component of UCF's operational capability.
