Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (www.pharmacy.unc.edu) is one of six health science schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Social Work, Public Health, Medicine) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest health science academic programs at Chapel Hill. The School teaches approximately 600 PharmD students and 145 graduate students. Position Summary
The Accounting Technician serves as a subject matter expert within the Business Operations cluster for the School of Pharmacy. The Accounting Technician performs functions related to the review and management of Divisional funds, grants, and expenditures. Primary duties and responsibilities include the review and approval of multiple financial transaction types (voucher, requisition, travel, pcard, etc.), managing employee funding, the submission of campus journals within ConnectCarolina, reconciliation of expenditures, and financial reporting. This position provides reports on a monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc basis to Divisional faculty and staff. The Accounting Technician also performs all financial close-out duties for externally funded contract and grant projects and works closely with the School's Office of Research to assist with ongoing management of those projects.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
It is essential that the selected candidate demonstrate experience and knowledge of accounting principles as well as a commitment to customer service as it relates to business operations. Timely coordination with faculty and staff requiring services and information is of the upmost importance. The selected candidate must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively within a team environment. A demonstrated ability to comply with University and State budget rules and regulations, strong attention to detail, and excellent analytical and writing skills are required. A high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, is required.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience in accounting, business administration, or related discipline and is preferred. Prefer candidates with prior experience with UNC accounting systems (RAMSeS, InfoPorte, and PeopleSoft/Connect Carolina).
