Job Description Summary

Working with minimal supervision provides education, training, and resources for personal and career development programs, including informal and formal mentoring programs and relationships, for more than 5,000 Wake Forest students and more than 80,000 alumni located around the world. Identifies and engages internal and external experts to deliver personal and career development education and programs for alumni. Identifies and supports innovative online tools and resources to expand reach and access. Builds and facilitates relationships and networks in collaboration with the Office of Alumni Engagement staff and the Office of Personal and Career Development. Serves as project manager for key personal and career development programs, both online and in-person, with an orientation towards process improvement and lifelong learning.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborates on and implements strategic plan to support personal and career development among alumni across career and life stages. Seeks out and develops strategic solutions to meet the career development needs of alumni in key geographical markets, industries, and alumni affinity groups.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Vice President and Director, develops and delivers mentoring and career development programs and content for students and alumni via in-person and online programs and individual and group coaching, reaching more than 20,000 annually. Identifies appropriate mechanisms of delivery to most effectively reach the maximum number of individuals possible. Identifies and engages internal and external experts to develop and deliver programs and content as appropriate.
  • Identifies opportunities to build and facilitate relationships and professional networks among and with alumni via online tools and in-person programs; manages facilitated networking and coaching programs to connect alumni with each other; tracks and increases usage.
  • Manages program registration, marketing, and evaluation for online and in-person programs. Identifies opportunities to effectively engage with and market programs to alumni via new and existing technologies.
  • Builds and facilitates relationships with alumni leaders and Office of Alumni Engagement staff to assess alumni needs and create strategic solutions to meet those needs; advises OPCD staff partners on collaborative partnership opportunities.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Vice President and Director, develops and delivers programs and communication strategies to raise awareness and value of mentoring relationships, skills, and frameworks among students and alumni.
  • Identifies opportunities to develop and curate content, programs, tools, and resources to meet personal and career development needs of alumni across career and life stages.
  • Supports the ongoing development and maintenance of two websites, multiple social media feeds, and the Wake Forest Alumni LinkedIn group via both created and curated resources and tools. Serves as project manager for the Deacon Spotlight and Alumni Career Adviser feature on the APCDC website and other educational and networking programs both online and in-person. Seeks out innovative delivery mechanisms for online programs and content. Implement strategic marketing plan in collaboration with the Director to engage students and alumni.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Vice President and Director, supports continuous improvement efforts, seeking opportunities to use new technology and resources and to identify content experts to meet constituent needs and shares with APCD, MRC, and OPCD teams as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Vice President and Director, develops and contributes to robust online learning platform to include courses, webinars, videos, and other tools and resources to support the personal and career development needs of alumni across career stages.
  • Consistently ensures that MRC and APCDC programs, resources, and communications exceed standards for access, reach, and address the diverse needs of all constituents and leads efforts to engage both campus and alumni partners to inform this work.
  • Develops and conducts annual and program outcome assessment surveys and metrics tracking to demonstrate value of programming and resources.
  • Effectively collaborates with other staff members, including those within the Alumni Personal and Career Development Center, the OPCD, and other WFU offices and departments.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Alumni Personal & Career Development Center and the Office of Alumni Engagement and identifies and communicates opportunities for increased collaboration.
  • Seek out opportunities to develop professional skillset and content knowledge with a commitment to lifelong learning; represents the MRC and APCDC as needed with trustees, parents, donors, University leadership, and external professional associations.
  • Travels as needed, both regionally and nationally; ability and willingness to deliver and support programs during evening and weekend hours as needed.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree plus 2-3 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community, including alumni, faculty, staff, employers, students, and colleagues.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct multiple programs and activities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to follow-up on all projects and tasks until successful completion.
  • High degree of self-motivation.
  • Accuracy and strong attention to details.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • An alumnus of Wake Forest University.
  • Master's degree in education, counseling, management, or a related field.
  • Experience in a higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of alumni and student personal and career development needs and designing solutions to meet those needs.
  • Accredited coaching or counseling certification.
  • Proficiency in Blackbaud or demonstrated willingness to learn.

  • This is an in-person position located on the Winston-Salem campus of Wake Forest.

Physical Requirements:
