About Ameren Illinois

Ameren Illinois provides electric transmission and distribution service and natural gas distribution service. Every day, we deliver electricity to 1.2 million electric and 816,000 natural gas customers in central and southern Illinois. We deliver safe, reliable energy to more than 1,200 communities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Development of engineering solutions, cost and schedule estimates, and preliminary designs associated with initial scoping and budgeting of projects; performing detailed civil/structural design upon project authorization.

  • Carrying out detailed site development design of existing substation yard expansions less than 0.5 acres up to the complete development of a new greenfield substation on 2-10 acres. Duties include contour & grading plan design; drainage design, including stormwater detention, storm sewer & underdrain systems, and pipe culverts; oil spill containment (SPCC); access road and driveway design. Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D preferred.

  • Carrying out design of reinforced concrete drilled pier, spread footing, and pad foundations to support substation equipment and structures. Other foundation designs may include driven or auger cast piles. Experience with LPILE and/or FAD Tools software is preferred.

  • Carrying out structural analysis and design of steel structures, including tapered tubes and standard structural shapes. Experience with STAAD software is preferred and familiarity with Autodesk Inventor is a plus.

  • Interact with others to coordinate design & construction activities, such as with Real Estate, Drafting, other design groups/firms, Environmental Services, construction crews, substation operations & maintenance, contractors, vendors, surveyors & geotechnical consultants.

  • Preparing bid packages, as required, and presenting information to contractors.

  • Facilitate acquiring permits to perform construction activities (e.g. entrance, building, stormwater).

  • Assembling construction release packages, including development of construction specifications.

  • Providing project management to ensure project budgets and schedules are met.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university required.

  • Engineer Intern (FE) certification preferred.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or active commitment to obtain in Illinois is required.

  • Two or more years of experience in civil or structural engineering, including the design of steel structures and reinforced concrete foundations, is preferred. New graduates will be considered.

  • Familiarity with ACI, AISC, and IBC is preferred.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

Good analytical, project management, communications and human relations skills; the ability to handle multiple concurrent work assignments with varying completion dates and prioritize effectively; the capability of working proficiently as part of a project team; and the following Ameren competencies: Be Strategic, Continuously Improve, Deliver Results, Engage Respectively, Foster Collaboration, and Think Customer.

Additional Information

Ameren's selection process includes a series of interviews and may include candidate testing and/or an individual aptitude or skill-based assessment. Specific details will be provided to qualified candidates.

Compensation Range:

$69,300.00 - $168,000.00

* This pay range encompasses multiple levels of the role. Career level and compensation depends upon applicant's credentials.

At Ameren, base salary is one component of a competitive compensation package for employees. Our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance.
